Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

Expect to see a three-fold increase in hiking on the WA side in the next year. So if you thought Dog got crowded early before, you will be in for a surprise.

I take it back. Looks open when read more carefully than I read the first time.

Re: Timberline trail questions

This looks like the trail is closed in places.

There's blowdown near Paradise Park and it is a pain for a short section near there. At least this was true two weeks ago. Maybe they did some maintenance since then.

Bosterson kept finding burnt organic matter that turned to ash when you poked it with a trekking pole. Here's Kep with a leaf that stayed together. Imagine the thousands of burning bits that flew over the Gorge in the fire's early days. Kind of amazing that there weren't more fires in WA.

Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

This is a live feed from Koins helicopter in the gorge. Don't know how long it will be available. You can scroll the video back and watch. It shows a lot of green. http://koin.com/koin-video-extras/ Thanks for posting this! Indeed, it does not look as bad as I feared. The scorched earth burn seems ...

Thanks to all who are sharing photos, news, and other resources about this.

Here's a map showing wildfire activity all over the US. You can zoom way in to see the detailed areas in the gorge.
