Re: Bear Lake hike

FYI, as I came down off Table two Fridays ago (3/31), there were at least six or seven groups that had either just set up camp or were heading in along the PCT in that (Gillette Lake) general vicinity. It was nearly dark when I crossed trails with the last stragglers, who wondered if there were any...

One of our favorite places! Thanks for the flower update, too. It is about 2 weeks later this year than in years past.

Sean, you would really enjoy a run down to Mack's Canyon and back, I think! :)

Yeah, snow levels show about 4 feet of snow near Bear. Not recommended. drm's rec of Gillette is a good option.

Nice loop, you guys! Beautiful pics. I will say that I have seen that kind of trail before, out of Atkisson Snopark. I had assumed it was just caused by many people snowshoeing over the same path but now I wonder.

Re: Black Friday Government Cove Garbage Cleanup- 11-25-16

Thanks for organizing this, Sean! It was a fun day and nice to see such a noticeable impact on the environment when we were finished :)

PS: I am still finding blackberry brambles in my body from my bouldering efforts in that little ditch off the main road.

Re: Indian Heaven: Junction Lake loop

Not trying to freak you out, but did you check the inside of the berries for worms before eating them?? Late season berries often have a worm living inside of them. Small white worm. Never heard that, no I didn't check. How do you check the inside of a berry before eating it? Cut it in half? Indeed...

Re: New Boots and Blisters...

I used Danner boots for years. Was quite happy. Now I've switched to a little lighter boots that I get for free for testing on BackpackGearTesters.org. They're always looking for new testers. I was going to suggest Danners as well. Also, that heel lock trick that Lurch mentioned has been key to me ...

Re: Favorite Oregon/Washington hikes for Fall colors?

Indian Heaven is always a great choice. I love how the huckleberry leaves look purple when lit from behind but red in the direct sun :)
