Re: Idea for Trailhead Parking App

How about another feature where you can report break-in's with a time stamp. It might help people narrow down when their car was vandalized.

Re: Across the Sierra, Pt. 2: Middle Fork Kings River

These trip reports kill me sometimes. I love reading them (especially the Sierra ones) but they seriously bum me out at times too. Like staring in the window of a breakfast restaurant watching people eat pancakes, when you've just started a low-carb diet.

Fabulous pictures and memories here....

Re: What gear do you wish existed?

A rain jacket that repels moisture reliably and for long periods of time but also can be inflated slightly if you need extra insulation. And it should be incredibly durable but lightweight...

Re: Across the Olympics (and Back), 2: Lost Pass to Port Ang

I was in the San Juan's during this time and I could not believe how thick the smoke was from Portland all the way up to Bellingham. It was crazy. Made for some fantastic sunrises and sunsets but the daytime light freaked me out by how orange it made everything. Felt like an alien planet.

Re: Which hike did you not get to do this month

I lost out on my planned PCT section this year. Elk Lake to Rim Village around Labor Day. My hiking partner and I decided to delay a week due to the heat during that weekend and the early part of the week and we were excited with the area around Mt Bachelor got hit with rain. We drove down to the tr...

Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

This is nonsense - natural restoration will proceed just fine - albiet more slowly and in its own direction - without our help. The Gorge at the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th Century was a logged-over mess (think of all those old logging railroads Don Nelsen has found) but it ca...
