Bird ID

Looking for a little help on this white bird seen at Tule Lake in early Oct.

For size reference here it is behind some white pelicans.

What kind of tree?

Saw this along the Fish Lake Trail in early October, I'm sure someone knows what it is. The only guess I had was maybe dogwood.

Critter ID

Saw a couple of small mammals over the weekend hiking around Klamath Falls. Hoping to get some positive IDs. The first one was in the Sprague River along the OC&E State Trail near Beatty. Our initial thought is mink or something similar. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1909/43375202140_73a0126ae4_k.j...

Re: Carl and Table Lakes - Labor Day Weekend 2018

I'm almost surprised we only bumped into you once during the weekend. Our itinerary was very similar except we hiked into Carl on Saturday morning and did South Cinder after setting up camp behind some trees at that eastern end of the lake. Then we did Table Lake and the viewpoint as a day hike from...

Re: Elkhorn Crest Trail 8/12 - 8/16/18

Excellent trip report and I am amazed at the number of goat encounters you had. Do you happen to know when typically the majority of the trails are melted out? It's pretty high elevation for Oregon but I don't have much experience in the eastern part of the state to be able to guess very accurately...

Elkhorn Crest Trail 8/12 - 8/16/18

We spent 5 days backpacking along the Elkhorn Crest Trail in the Blue Mountains from 8/12 - 8/16. Had good weather for most of the trip, just a few brief showers on our last night/day. It got a little hazy after the second day which limited our views but the air in the Elkhorns never got too smokey....

Re: Wasp?

It looks like one of the giant ichneumons (Megarhyssa sp.). They are a family related to wasps, but they don't sting. The females have the longest ovipositors related to body size in the insect world - I think I see it in the picture stretching behind its rear end. We have a winner! I tried browsin...
