Re: Trans-Kalmiopsis Route

Thanks for your feedback. I just received my Thumb Drive of all the maps of the Kalmiopsis, Wild Rogue, Soda Mountain, Red Buttes, Siskiyou, Grassy Knob and Sky Lakes Wilderness Areas thanks to becoming a member of the Siskiyou Mountain Club. I may not be able to do the Trans-Kalmiopsis Route but @a...

Trans-Kalmiopsis Route

When looking for a Winter/Spring backpacking trip I tend to look south. I did the Wild Rogue Loop in May of 2015 which turned out to be a great Spring backpacking trip. Now I have come across the Trans-Kalmiopsis Route which appears to be another trail system that is just now recovering from the Bis...

Timberline Trail was Hard but Worth It

Everything came together for the perfect backpacking trip around Mt. Hood. The previous week was about heat and smoke from various forest fires burning in the state, but then the winds shifted to blow the smoke to the east, temperatures dropped and the stage was set for backpacking the Timberline Tr...

Sisters Wilderness on the PCT

I hit the trail late afternoon on Thursday July 20th from Elk Lake and made it to the top of Koosah Mountain for an evening with a fabulous view and an army of mosquitoes. https://higheredtechtalk.files.wordpress.com/2017/07/img_2383.jpg Waking up to those mosquitoes did cause me to question why I h...

Re: Tried to get into Eagle Cap Wilderness

Tomorrow I'm off to finish the PCT Sisters segment E that I aborted due to heat 2 years ago. I have a friend shuttling me from Lava Lake Trailhead to start my 30 mile trip from Elk Lake Trailhead. https://adventurecontinues.org/2015/06/ ... s-learned/

Re: Tried to get into Eagle Cap Wilderness

Concerning the bugs. Everyone told me prior to going in that the bugs were bad. I consider bad to be possibly wanting to use a net. The bugs were not bad, they were interested in you as the day cooled down but a little bug repellent and you were fine. As for the snow melt, yes, it is warm and the me...

Re: Tried to get into Eagle Cap Wilderness

I spoke with others who had been to the Lakes Basin. The USFS crew said Douglas Lake was starting to open up. Your photos of the river crossing look much better then what we saw. The water is high. I should have taken a photo. I backpacked into the Lakes Basin from the Two Pan Trailhead 5 years ago ...

Tried to get into Eagle Cap Wilderness

@AussieBrook and I knew heading into the Eagle Cap Wilderness from the Wallowa Lake Trailhead that I may not be able to access my desired objectives but the unknown is just as alluring. I got a late start after dropping my wife off at the Fishtrap Writers Conference on Monday 7/10 ending up where th...

Would like to spend 5 Days Backpacking in the Wallawas

My wife will be in a writers workshop on Lake Wallawa next week. I just retired last Friday so I am free to backpack while she is writing. I did a great Eagle Cap Loop back in 2014 but that was early August. I would love to trounce around the Eagle Cap area again, but I realize snow is going to be a...

Re: Olympic Coast Shi Shi to Rialto Beach

We crossed the Ozette River at low tide and it was only up to our knees.
