Re: February Showers Bring March Flowers

Arundodonax: off topic completely, but can you tell me where your profile pic was taken? I assume the Sierras, maybe near Rae Lakes?, but if there's scenery like that in the PNW I need to go there! Some pics I've seen of the Enchantments look very Sierra-ish, so that's why I ask. :)

Re: 2011 hiking & backpacking plans/goals

Yeah, I second that from what I've been told. My Norway Pass hike above is actually Mount Margaret.

BTW, thanks for that hiking website. I had a fun afternoon entering some hikes in. Really like it! :)

Re: Big Agnes Fly Creek vs. Double Rainbow???

Thank you all for the input. The deciding factor was price - I couldn't resist the Big Agnes for <$100 after my dividend. And of course, I could see it/heft it before I bought it, which helps with the decision. It is certainly a tight squeeze for both of us, so we will likely keep our heavy tent for...

Re: 2011 hiking & backpacking plans/goals

I'll chime in, since all I can think about lately is "The List" :geek: Anything with an asterisk is an overnighter: April-June: Ruckle Ridge, Herman Creek, BigHuck/Grassy Knoll, Silver Star July: Indian Heaven, Norway Pass, Opal Creek, Mount Mitchell, Wind Ridge to Loowit Falls August-September: Gna...

Big Agnes Fly Creek vs. Double Rainbow???

Hi all ~ anyone have good things to say about the Big Agnes UL Fly Creek 2 person tent? My REI dividend is tempting me to forgo the Henry Shires Double Rainbow tarp tent of my dreams and go with what REI has that's comparable. I would probably also use it as my solo tent, too, since it's lighter tha...

Selling off two tents to buy a new one...

Hi all ~ planning to sell off my solo and 2-person tents to help pay for the much lighter Double Rainbow, which at 2.5 lbs can do double duty. If anyone is interested in gearing up inexpensively, I have a gently used Kelty Crestone 1 or a good condition Sierra Designs Sirius 2, so send me a private ...

BBQ in Bend... did you go to Baldy's?! That's our favorite post-hike/bike pigout in Bend. Awesome pictures, definitely looks worth the drive!

Re: Mount Hood to Crater Rock (02/20/11)

Thanks, sounds like another one for my summer roster! I vaguely knew about the Mississippi Head hike but I didn't realize you could go beyond it all the way up to the Hogsback. And thanks for the warning about the drop into Zigzag Canyon - I tend to be overly cautious about weather and usually turn ...

Re: Mount Hood to Crater Rock (02/20/11)

Wow, awesome. Do you think this would be fairly easy/safe in the summer, say, relative to Camp Muir on Rainier or the Mount Adams summit? If not, at about what elevation does Hood go from hiking with crampons and ice axe to climbing? I am eager to get higher on Mount Hood, but have a lot of trepidat...
