Re: South to the sunshine, Clear Lake 11/5

Gene, good on ya!! I got a clear no-wind day on the lake about 6 weeeks ago...it sure is magical!! But, you didn't seem as obcessed with taking photos of the submerged stump forest as I did. God, I just couldn't stop--it was one of my neatest paddling days EVER...ANYWHERE!! I'm jealous of your autum...

Re: Old Indian Trail / Oregon Trail Cattle Variation ?

Chase, that's some damn fine googling to turn up that long-lost nugget of Walk-up trail lore!! I'm glad my memory served OK in regards to Jason and Daniel Lee. I read and re-read Gorge history books most every day, when I'm not out actually searching out lost, forgotten, or never-known bits of Gorge...

Re: Old Indian Trail / Oregon Trail Cattle Variation ?

I don't know if this is on the same wavelength, but I seem to remember that Missionaries Jason and Daniel Lee came to The Dalles in 1838 via the Indian trail (Lolo Pass?) with their cattle, etc. Maybe that'll help. I have a feeling it was a "known" and viable trail, just not a trail that a wagon tra...

Re: Tunnel Falls 1919 - when constructed?

Chase, I doubt Elliot had anything to do with Eagle Creek. He was an overly-busy Hwy engineer working for the newly-formed hwy commission, whereas the eagle Creek work was being done by the Forest Service as it ramped-up it efforts to compete for funding with the growing Natl Park service. Eagle Cre...

Re: Tunnel Falls 1919 - when constructed?

Good digging Chase! I'm of the opinion that the trail was constructed 1916ish. There wouldn't have been anything done in 1908, as there wasn't any highway construction earlier than 1910 at Shell Rock Mtn. Anyhow, here is an interesting inscription in a rock along the lower Eagle Creek trail....sorta...

Re: Historical Films of Interest

Chase, I reckon I hadn't seen this post the first times around. Have you seen the appendix in the back of Curious Gorge listing most every commercial film with scenes shot in the Gorge...and the minute in the movie in which each scene pertains too and exactly where the scene was shot? Fun fun...watc...

Re: Broughton Log Flume 9/2/12

Thanks for the props Peder...and thanks for the great pix Guy! I haven't uploaded too much of the extensive files I have about the flume onto my blog, mostly because my Windows 7 seems to scramble everything I uploaded to Wordpress from XT a few years ago. Anyhow, I have placed a bunch of pix along ...
