Re: Lake Bagging in the Seven Devils, July 10-14, 2010

Excellent report. I had done the loop around 7 Devils a number of years ago (pre-fire) during a three day 4th of July holiday and didn't have the snow you saw. Being only three days I didn't get to see anything on the interior either. The loop is nice but there are some long stretches with no water....

Re: Elk Meadows 6-28-10

Must have just missed you. I was up there on Sunday too. What a perfect day for a hike. I kept on going around to the old shelter for lunch. Yaktrax were helpful for sure.

No snow at all for the first 3/4th of the hike then all snow at the top.

What wasn't snow was pretty soggy. Won't be long for the bugs to show I would suspect.

What's left of the old shelter. Sort of disappointing to see where folks have been using some of the cedar shingles from the side of the shelter for fire wood in the fire ring out front.

Re: Bugs

Kiss off Indian Heaven for the next couple of months. I parked at Crest Camp Saturday and wasn't out of my vehicle more then a couple of minutes before famous Indian Heaven mosquito cloud appeared.

Re: The Snow Level Thread, 2010

Did the trudge up to the top of Tanner Butte Saturday. Just a few patches of mushy snow left below and the one big patch on the flat portion on top. I think all that warm rain wiped out most of the snow. You could tell in a number of places where the ground was bare where there probably was snow a d...

Re: Hart Mountain NAR 05/29-31/10

Well I came up DeGarmo (nice but steep), dropped down to Barnhardy, crossed over to Rock Creek (very nice with lots of places to camp), then went up Willow Creek (Very difficult. Short 'trail' in the beginning that goes up to a view point then nothing of hacking through sage and/or Aspen's for 3+ mi...

Re: Hart Mountain NAR 05/29-31/10

The loop took us up one final 500 foot ascent along an old road bed just barely discernible. In fact I lost it before hitting the main jeep road that led us back to Barnhardi Road.

You didn't happen to see some goofball lugging a backpack pass by you on this stretch did you?

Re: Red Mountain Lookout 9/21/09

Looks like they rebuilt the place. I had snowshoed up there a couple of springs ago and the this is what I found. The winter had not been kind to the lookout tower:

And the top ended up here.

Re: First Alpine Snows this Weekend!

Sunday (09-06) was just a delightful day going up to Carin Basin. Other then the 40 - 50 mph winds and the driving rain  . You know it's bad when you pull into the Top Spur parking lot on a Sunday of a three day week end and you are only the third car there. The other folks in the other two car...
