Re: Gorge closure order

It doesn't appear that ODOT intends to reopen the Columbia River Highway any time soon. Can't use the trails if you can't even get on the road to them :x . http://www.oregonlive.com/wildfires/index.ssf/2017/10/columbia_gorge_fire_what_you_n_1.html#incart_river_index Historic Columbia River Highway O...

Re: Gorge closure order

I couldn't help but think back to a couple of years ago when I was over in the Bridger Wilderness in Wyoming. The idea was to branch off from the CDT and up the Halls Lake trail then cross country over to Halls Lake. Well a quarter miles or so from the CDT/Halls Lake junction there was this sign: DS...

Re: Starvation Creek State Park: Fake news?

You might want to try this link instead. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd560885.pdf It seems pretty complete but as with most FS communications that start out as a good idea if they don't keep it updated it becomes worthless. Wygant (state trail) appears to be missing but I gues...

Re: Gorge closure order

Here's another good reason to not go sneaking around out there: http://portlandtribune.com/go/42-news/374865-259744-no-charge-yet-for-fire-its-a-lot-of-politics- In the meantime, police haven't been shy when it comes to citing trespassers who enter closed recreation areas like Multnomah Falls or Ain...

Re: Indian Heaven north loop

I think we may have crossed paths up on the PCT if that was you in the red/maroon coat. At first I thought it was Brad Pitt but now I am thinking it was DRM. Sorry we didn't stop and chat but you seemed like a man on a mission. And yeah the Cultus Creek trail is a lot of up in a short span. I did th...

Re: Eagle Creek Fire Damage Photos (9/20/2017)

Makes me really glad I got in as many hikes in the gorge as I did before it all went up in smoke. I hadn't done Tanner Butte in a few years but made it up there about a week before the Indian Creek fire closed everything down. Good to see that the Bell Creek area just got touched. I do Franklin Ridg...

Betsy and I all bundled up for the cold http://www.deanmyerson.org/files/photo%20archive/gorge/mtadams/ne17/mf%2005.jpg That doesn't look like it's near as much fun as you are saying in your write up  Guess shorts and tee shirt weather is done for at least in the high country. I spent Tuesday n...

Re: Wind River Mts. 9.7-9.13 2017

My favorite place on the planet. I have done a number of trips over there over the years and still haven't seen all that I would like to see. Sort of like Eagle Cap times five. Here's looking back at you from the the upper portion of Titcomb Basin: DSC_0179b.jpg And you missed the prime spot to stop...

Re: Fire in Indian Heaven Wilderness PCT closed

Don Nelsen wrote:I looked at the closure map and am amazed - why in the world is the entire Indian heaven wilderness closed!!! This makes no sense at all and besides, the fire is out. what is going on!!
I think there is concern that the snow will catch on fire

Re: Official 2017 Snow Level Thread

No need for snowshoes, but gaiters highly recommended. Yes gaiters are highly recommended. Snow baskets on my trekking poles would have helped too. More fun in the snow. Yocum Ridge on Friday 9/22. Nothing like taking an hour and a half longer then normal to complete the trip. But the sun was out a...
