Re: Mt Hood rescues

I listened to an interview with someone from MHNF a couple of weeks ago about all the closures. He was specifically asked if climbing Mt Hood was allowed or not. His answer was technically yes but it would be a long climb because all the usual access points like Timberline lodge where off limits!

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

We drove to the Criterion Ranch on Sunday (92 miles from home so just within the Govenors 50 miles per person rule ;) ) Yup. That's an, um, interesting interpretation of the "rule". (Which was actually phrased a request I think.) Just having a little fun :) Though it does point out I could have hon...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

Keeping the trailheads closed has become a bad joke. All it's doing now is increasing the amount of dangerous parking along Hwy26. We drove to the Criterion Ranch on Sunday (92 miles from home so just within the Govenors 50 miles per person rule ;) ) We drove there and back without stopping and on o...

Re: What is a developed trailhead?

I see this statement in the news that “developed trailheads” are closed. What exactly are they? Anything with a toilet? Anything with parking? What exactly is a developed trailhead? Thanks! Mike / “GoalTech” I depends on the National Forest for some it's only Trail heads with toilets or requiring t...

Re: Cazadero Trail - Boring, OR

So is the old rail line on the other side of Deep Creek already publicly owned? If not this purchase just gets you across the creek. Seems no expensive bridge now but switchbacks down & back up the other side. The Cazadero State Trail follows a long-abandoned rail line, but disconnects where trestle...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

I think governor Brown did amazingly well with her shutdown orders. Oregon has avoided large number of deaths. If you look at deaths per million population, only 5 states are better than us. But I think we had more risk because of proximity to Washington and California, our high tech industry assoc...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

The Sandy Ranger station said it was okay to day hike to Ramona Falls? What about overnight? Well what he actually told me was I would not be violating any Forest Service regulations and he did also confirm that the MHNF trails were open for use, backpacking & dispersed camping are also allowed if ...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

Great photo, Guy! That area has always been crowded for dispersed camping, and I'm not surprised to hear it's crowded now. I think part of the reason that designated campgrounds are closed is to protect the health and safety of the workers who have to clean the bathrooms, empty the dumpsters, etc. ...
