Re: Oregon State Parks closing to all use

If you are inclined to complain about such difficulties, remember the front line medical workers who are already running flat out trying to meet the projected emergency needs of the next few months and be glad if you are not at the tip of the spear. Word. Yes, this sucks. No it doesn't suck as bad ...

Re: COVID-19: Stay safe, stay home

Tko can release a position on a pandemic that got on everyone's radar in the last 3 months and that'll in one way or another have a terminus, but couldn't release one on a permit system that permanent implements access until further notice even with 2+ years notice   Yeah, I know it's vo...

Re: Covid-19

I think the point of the orders is far more important than the legalistic interpretations I'm reading in this thread. I cancelled a day of cross country skiing I was going to enjoy up in a quiet corner of Mt Hood this week. At least for the moment, I'd rather not take that remote chance of injury (e...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

The original proposal envisioned the permit system as creating a revenue stream capable of supporting a budget for new staff who would help help with both education and enforcement efforts. From what I can see (and I've only seen this thread, not an official press release) this revision of the plan...

Re: TKO spam

I got that email, but I think it's probably because I did a trail work party recently, not because I've been on the site since 2007. I don't think it's so wrong for the TKO to take advantage of what is probably its biggest data source. The two non-profit boards I am on have worked really hard to com...

Hi Liz! Welcome!
I think there's a forum member who lives in Medford, or in Ashland? We definitely don't have the same coverage down there.

Re: strange ice formation at edge of lake

Second vote for wind. I'm going to bet that several days of consistent direction wind pushed free lake water onto a thin slab of frozen lake water, one thin sheet of water at a time, building it up layer by layer. Word of caution: I'm a musician, not a scientist. :)

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

Observation: the Mazamas have been actively opposing this unnecessarily restrictive plan. Question: Where the heck is the Trailkeepers of Oregon? Why have I heard diddly squat on this entire issue??? The mission statement of the TKO is "Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO) is a non-profit organization whose...

Re: volcano monitoring equipment coming to wilderness slopes of Mt Hood

In a vacuum it's probably not a big deal as an isolated improvement in an area designated as wilderness. However, given the government's recent track record on why certain things "need" to be done (e.g. why Alabama needed a hurricane warning, why wind turbines will cause cancer, why we don't have t...
