Re: Elk Creek Trail in the snow 03-17-12

We were up on the Elk Mountain Trail (not the river one) on last Wednesday and ran into just tons and tons of snow. Expected maybe 6-8 inches but ended up kicking steps us and up finding ourselves in as much as 2feet + of snow. Really wet snow but even with all the rain I don't expect this to dissap...

Grass widows are out on Munra Point

Did a great hike up Munra yesterday and was astounding to see so many grass widows blooming along with some other LYP (little yellow flowers). Even more amazing was there was not one bit of snow anywhere on the trail. Had anticipated some along with icey conditions but luckily, none and the trail is...

Re: Gorton Creek 2.13.12

Such a quick response - thanks a ton. Wish that the USFS could have some crews out there doing some of this work - there is much to be done and there have to be some funds available - right? See other thread on the Forest Service ruling and NW Forest Pass.

Re: Dog Mt. - Fantastic! Augspurger Mt. Tr - Terrible! 2-19-

Jack - thanks again for the very detailed report and the photos to prove it. Must have been rather an adventure (understatement) getting that far along the Augspurger Mnt Trail. A couple of weeks ago, I went up the Augspurger Mnt Trail from the Dog Parking Lot and that was OK as was the trail over t...

Re: Snow Conditions on Table Mt. 2-15-2012

We did head up Table on Saturday, 2/18 and, while the weather wasn't that great, we did have a good trip up. Headed up Heartbreak Ridge (East Ridge) and over to the talus field and up through it to the summit and then down the west ridge to the PCT. Conditions - well, yes, there was snow. dusting st...

Re: Snow Conditions on Table Mt. 2-15-2012

Jack - thanks for the update on the trail conditions and snow level. Heading up there on Saturday but who knows - looks like the snow levels are dropping very far down on Saturday. Glad to see you noticed the trail work on the Dick Thomas trail. Some of us did that and then did a lot on Cedar Mounta...

Re: Trail conditions

Haven't been up there but a couple of friends have. The access road to the Tanner TH had a ton of blow-down on it and some of it very large and precarious. A lot of the smaller was cut and removed by volunteers and there is good passage now but be forewarned. From the actual TH upward, things are no...

Re: Oneonta Gorge Clearing

Great work on a very-often used trail. Amazing amount of work (and dangerous) for taking out a root wad and its trunk but it is clear that everyone was up for it and prepared. Thanks so much to those of us who traverse along this - we'll remember your fine work as our feet make the tread a little fi...

Re: Nesmith Point Trail open for your enjoyment

Continuing the Nesmith theme - went up Nesmith Ridge yesterday and found things in great shape on this off-travel travel up from above Ellowah Falls. Almost no blow-down. Trail tread better than ever. No snow - didn't believe it until I saw it - in the steep bowl just before you hit the top of the r...
