Crossing Oneonta Creek to Horsetail Trail #425 - changes

For those coming down Horsetail Creek trail (#425) it has always been a problem getting across the Oneonta Creek above the 2nd bridge. While there is a nice (new) bridge above Triple Falls and a good old log bridge further up, there is no bridge at the juntion with Horsetail Creek and the cut-off to...

Re: Eagle-Benson-Ruckle Loop, May 13, 2012

Nice to have some 'natural' air conditioning in the snow after that long slog up. Hope the trail is in pretty good shape. Thanks for the report and great pictures.

Re: Mt Defiance Trail 4/24 (trail work)

Amazing amount of work - you have done a GREAT favor for many hikers to come and some coming this weekend. Wish that the tax dollars could be spent doing some of this work so we don't have to have all the burden on volunteers and non-profit groups (like PCTA and WTA). It is certainly a matter of mis...

Re: Benson Snow Report?

Just did Ruckel Ridge/ Creek today (4/21) and the conditions are GREAT!. Flowers out on the way up, no debris, good footing and the snow - well, it is only on the Benson itself and probably 12" to 18" deep on the crossing over from the top of Ruckel Ridge across the creek (good bridge of a couple of...

Re: Dog Mtn Scenic Trail WTA work party 4-14-2012

Was up and down Dog on early Sunday morning and commented elsewhere here on the great work done on opening up the east-side (scenic) trail by the Washington Trail Assoc - WTA. HUGE amount of work - just take in the devastation off the (now beautiful) trail as you go up or down to understand a little...

Dog Mountain - ALL TRAILS OPEN at 4-15-12

Dog Mountain is ready for guests and there were a tons today. Previous reports have told that the middle trail is in good shape but questioned the status of the wind-blown debris and destruction from January on the east (scenic) trail. Well don't worry, all trails are now ready for you. Went up Augs...

Re: PCTA Trail Work done on Eagle Creek Friday 13 April 2012

Great work once again by the PCTA. I do totally apprecaite it and hope that some how, the Forest Service can find some funding for some of this type of work in the Gorge (and elsewhere) so that it doesn't always have to be non-profit groups doing the job. We do a lot of it for sure but what the heck...

Ruckel Ridge and down Ruckel Creek 3-24-12

Went up Ruckel Ridge and across the Benson Plateau and then down Ruckel Creek Trail yesterday (3/24). Was one of the more difficult hikes for sure. Luckily the weather was fantastic all day long or we would have turned-back and descended the Ruckel Ridge - something not enjoyable. Don't have picture...

Tanner Butte Trail at 3-21-12

Hiked up the road (#777) and then up Tanner Butte Trail (#401) yesterday (3/21) to cut-off for Wauna Point. To update some prior posts, the road is very hikable - yes some blowdown still there but not any problem getting aroudn and over. The BPA/USFS will probably be clearing at some point after the...
