Re: Bridge to No where

Thanks for the directions to the bridge.....The directions were PERFECT! And it is just as the pictures showed, but it was cool to see in person. I went backpacking to Twin Lakes with my daughter, and we thought we would check out this bridge on the way home. If road 63 hadn't been closed it would h...

Re: Weather/Trail Conditions for Serene Lake Loop

From a recent posting on the trailadvocate.org site: As of Saturday the 18th the road to Frazier Turnaround is open to 4wd vehicles. I was up there, having walked in from Shellrock and saw a couple of fishermen who drove their Jeep in after someone with a large truck bulled through the last of the s...

Re: GPS recomendations

You can only download the Mapsource maps from Garmin to your Garmin GPS. An exception is making your own maps, but it sounds like a lot of work, see http://home.cinci.rr.com/creek/garmin.htm I haven't had any luck with that sequence of steps, but I did find this program: http://moagu.com/ . I haven...

Re: GPS recomendations

Hey Greg: I had to take a look at your website, and I saw that you wanted to go to Rock Lakes soon. One of your criteria is no bugs, and Rock Lakes is well known for its bugs early in the season. I was there a couple years ago in July, and the Mosquitoes were pretty thick (had to wear head nets and ...

Re: Backpacking in Eagle Caps

We drove through the general area last week, and for the most part, the snow is gone. We were up on top of Mt Howard at 8150', and there were only small patches of snow left, so I'd guess that you will be OK by the end of the month.

Re: Mosquitoes at Memaloose Lake?

I hiked up there on the 7th (9 days ago), and the bugs were not bad at all. There was a little snow at the lake still, but there were still areas to setup camp. There was one family camping there. Don't know if things have gotten worse since then. My guess is that the snow may be gone now, and there...

Re: Has anyone else actually BENT a Leki pole..?

Interesting timing.....I was reading another post about a trip to Crater Lake, and he had the same experience with Leki poles: The trekking pole ended up in two pieces (Leki Ultralight; this is my second broken pair so I'm taking them back to REI to get something else as I don't trust these now). He...

Re: Photo Corkboard (share your photos!)

Nice photos- Ok - my interest is perked, the "Rimrock Trail" huh? does that come up from Souixon Creek? or like from Yale Lake? Do tell!? (Perhaps this is a question for the Trail Q&A thread) Here is the description of the trail: http://www.trailadvocate.org/trails/704 . It is is the Clackamas Rang...

A picture from Prineville Reservoir a couple of years ago. Although I can't take credit for the scenery, I thought this came out pretty well.
