Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

He is not sure if the Forest Service has done a hard closure, and they may not, as this high use trail is an approach and/or exit from popular trails above I don't know about "hard closure," but there does need to be really clear obvious warnings at the trailheads. Especially Multnomah so people do...

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

I came from Multnomah, so I hit this from the top. I guess that undercut section is what I walked over before I realized what was up. It was just snow and branches, didn't look like anything too out of the ordinary. I guess I'm not the most observant person in the world, because I just saw the trail...

Major Wahkeena landslide

There is a major landslide on the Wahkeena trail above Fairy Falls. The hillside pretty much fell away and left a sheer drop where trail used to be. Someone put up a makeshift closure barrier of branches and flagging tape at Fairy Falls, but when I went through this morning there was no warning at e...

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

Deep snow, several new trees down, but the big news here is a major slide above Fairy Falls. Hillside has just fallen away, taking a couple sections of trail switchback with it. That's going to be out of commission for a while.

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

Sunday 2/11 managed the full loop without spikes until the end of the return trail dropping down to the road. Still just a steep mountain of snow that doesn't want to hold tracks. Other notables: this was the first day I was able to go up at Wiesendanger without spikes. Down might still be tricky. T...

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

Ha, I was there that same morning and was thinking how much improved and nice to walk on the Wahkeena side was. I actually started clockwise from Multnomah but turned back at the Wiesendanger switchbacks. Just seemed a lot worse than previous winters, really steep and slick to start up. I gave it a ...

Re: How do you make coffee at home?

I have an aeropress, but apparently I'm too stupid to use it. Both as far as technique and figuring out what I need for grind size. Doesn't help that I only drink espresso usually, so I'm not even 100% clear on what other types of brew are supposed to taste like. I've watched a couple YouTube videos...

Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

I've appreciated the updates from others, so I guess I should add my own. But first: the most interesting thing I saw all day was actually just before I got back to my car. A group of guys stripped down to their shorts and were going for a swim in Multnomah Creek at the railroad bridge. In the snow....
