Larch - Wahkeena Junction

Twice in the last couple months I've come across people where Multnomah Basin Rd crosses Larch Mountain trail who are lost looking for Multnomah Falls. It turns out what's happening is they're starting at Wahkeena on the loop, but the junction of Wahkeena and Larch Mountain is so overgrown they don'...

Re: Open: Wahkeena lower parking, Larch Mtn Rd

I've been confused why the Wahkeena lot is still sometimes closed. When I parked this morning the gates were closed, but open when I returned to my car. Ok, I have a notion... yup, found a sign that said gates open at 8 am and close at 8 pm. In the past I've made a point of parking below in the summ...

Clackamas County crews rescue 7 hikers near Ramona Falls

https://katu.com/news/local/clackamas-county-crews-rescue-7-hikers-near-ramona-falls This caught my attention because of this When their inaccurate online information about their route left them on an impassable trail, the exhausted hikers decided to build a fire and camp for the night. Assuming the...

Cascade Locks - Herman Creek Bridge 2021.6.8

Was looking to give my knee a bit of a break while still getting some miles in, so this flat-ish route seemed like a good choice today. I drove through some rain on the way home, but if it rained on the trail at all it never made it through the trees to me. Lovely weather for a walk in the woods, an...

Re: Sandy River crossing on Ramona Falls hike

There was a spot upstream where some hikers were using rocks and logs to cross, but most people who checked out that spot decided not to try it. That spot upstream was actually easier to cross, at least on the outbound. My trip report , and another's post for a pic of that crossing--second pic in t...

Arrived at the TH at 8:30 to quite a few cars already in the lot. The trail to Mirror Lake is in very good condition, with just a couple of step-overs. I didn't go around the lake, but I gather the plank section at the tip of the lake by the prime viewing spot is semi-submerged. I heard splashing an...

Re: Ramona Falls 6/1/2021

Leash or no leash, dogs don't really belong in these places, especially Wilderness Areas. Ironically though that's exactly where they aren't required to be leashed. I'm admittedly not 100% on the rules, partly because I don't have a dog and partly because the USFS doesn't go out of their way to mak...
