Re: Red Shorts dies unexpectedly

In spite of my strong penchant for introversion, I'd been planning on using the Wahkeena area for some mild conditioning this year and was hoping to bump into Red Shorts That right there is exactly how I became acquainted with him. Still the only person I've ever introduced myself to on the trail. ...

Re: Red Shorts dies unexpectedly

Thank you for letting the community know. We often ran into one another out on the trail, and I've been looking out for him.

Larch Mountain 2024/3/20

I took a trip up Larch Mountain yesterday to check out conditions. Happy to report, conditions overall were excellent! Specifically, I most wanted to have a look at the washout about 2.25 miles up and answer idoru's question about how that's looking. There's been work done since I last looked (thank...

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

Not sure. I had a look on 3/13 and it was the same, but I'm looking at the TKO calendar now and it looks like it says they were working on it 3/14?

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

Have to pop back in here to say how amazing the trail crew is that worked on the washout at Wiesendanger. I knew there was work scheduled yesterday to clear trees from the Larch Mountain trail, and I wondered if they might do something to patch up that washout a little, even just to help themselves ...

Re: Herman Creek TH to Pinnacles, 3/3/2024

I used to access this trail from the other end pretty frequently. At some point I realized that every problem I ever had on this trail disappeared as soon as I passed Dry Creek Falls. Definitely a nicer hike from the other end, with more options as well. The parking lot is an issue, but I usually go...

Re: Multnomah / Wahkeena update 2/1/2024

The slide above Fairy Falls has expanded at the top. Coming down towards the slide the trail is blocked by a mound of earth and a big tree lying lengthwise mostly along the trail. Still not completely impassable, though it looks pretty terrible. I wound up choosing a sketchy route, but having looked...

You may have made the difference squidvisious! "2/18/24: Landslide above Fairy Falls (approximately 2.0 miles from trailhead)has blown-out trail switchbacks. No timeline for repairs. Trail is not officially closed but access is not recommended. Cross slide with extreme caution." Source of quote : h...
