Re: Falls Creek Antenna Head
I was out there last week. I think the road was the worst I've seen it. Not because the potholes were so wide or deep--although there were some respectable ones--but because they were absolutely constant. And some did not have a clear line to steer around/through without just dipping in. Usually the...

Re: barefoot hypothermic hiker rescued from Munra Point
The second rescue sounds like a classic case of how an emergency beacon can actuallly encourage more dangerous behavior. If whatever news report I read was accurate (always a big "if"), the person was not prepared for the snow they encountered, but instead of turning back once they started getting i...

Re: barefoot hypothermic hiker rescued from Munra Point
Flip flops. That's what he started out in. Munra Point, closed trail, in the rain, alone, doesn't know the trail, literally in flip flops.

Ed: ok, he started off Sunday, so I guess at least remove the "in the rain" strike

Re: Visit to Foxglovia 1-24-22
Hmm, it's been a good long time, so maybe it's just grown worse in my mind over the years, but that looks considerably neater than what I'm picturing. Or there was a tree down or something in the midst of it that has all just blurred into "stupid busted bridge that tried to kill me" in the interim.

Re: Visit to Foxglovia 1-24-22
Digging this up a bit late, but I forgot to ask my question re: Lily's Lane. I haven't been that way in many years. At the time there was a wrecked footbridge on the trail that had collapsed in such a way that you couldn't really go around, but had to scramble over the logjam that was the remains of...

Re: Ticketed access to HCRH waterfall corridor
As I read it, you could visit all the waterfalls, park at the trailheads, and not worry about being booted out or ticketed. Yes, that's correct. Once you're in, you're in. But there's no guarantee of parking availability, so if people are getting there early and parking up to hike all day, the perm...

Re: Ticketed access to HCRH waterfall corridor
Traffic will be whatever the amount of permits they decide to release allows it to be, which we don't know.

Re: Ticketed access to HCRH waterfall corridor
There's some additional/updated info up now at https://www.waterfallcorridorpermits.org It does answer one question for me--the maps they put out earlier showed the parking lot on 84 as requiring a [separate] permit. Huh? Well, in effect that's what they've done. The timed entry permit for visiting ...
