Salmon Butte TH disruption

Had a bit of a surprise when I arrived at the Salmon Butte TH this morning. There is a stream restoration project in progress, June 10-28 according to the signs. The trail is open, but the parking area is closed and being used as a staging area for logs and heavy equipment. Had no problem with parki...

Re: Status of short route to Top Spur TH?

If nothing stands out in your memory, then I'm going to assume that means it was fine / just normal bad. Thanks for the info.

Status of short route to Top Spur TH?

Since it's come up in a couple threads now, any up-to-date info on the state of the shorter (Muddy Fork Rd > 1828) route to Top Spur TH? I was swearing I remembered discussions saying (1) it had gotten especially terrible (2) it had gotten so terrible they had finally done repairs After digging arou...

Re: Tom, dick and Harry mountain free of snow? Other options for sunset hike?

Will be curious to hear what the parking situation is like that time of day on a weekend. It was already full when I left around noon on a non-summer Monday (and also already covered in broken window glass).

Anyone hike mirror lake or Tom dick and Harry in recent weeks? I'm looking to do a sunset hike this Saturday with sunset views of Hood. Is it hikeable this time of year or still covered in snow?

Any other potentially better suggestions for seeing the sunset on the mountain?
No snow at all 6/3.

Re: Best place to view and get pics of Mt Hood

Most of these suggestions sound more than a little ambitious if you are only going to be in the area for "a day or so" and also want to fit in Cannon Beach. With that schedule, it sounds like you're looking for quick stops and side trips to do en route, rather than day trips out from a hotel base ca...

Larch Mountain Road is open

Opened Thursday 5/23. Understandable if you didn't realize, since as of today the signs on the road still say it's closed at the snow gate, and whatever I checked on the web just yesterday also claimed it was closed. But I'm here to tell you, that sucker is definitely open. Foggy as heck today, but ...

Re: Costco trekking poles?

My pair from when this thread started (2016) recently broke, so I bought new Costco poles this year. One of them broke the first day I used them. The thing that pushed me to finally pull the trigger on a backup pair is that I did do something pretty terrible to mine recently, basically fell on one ...

Re: Costco trekking poles?

Heads up that these are on sale at Costco now, $5 off to bring them to $24.99 (iirc). I didn't look at how long the sale goes, but I just saw it today. Bought a backup pair because I live in fear of doing something terrible to mine in Costco's off-sale season and not being able to replace them. They...

FS says open https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare...
