Re: Larch Mountain Crater Loop

Sorry, I guess I should have followed that up. It is indeed clear and lovely now.

Re: Will the Nesmith point trail ever reopen?

As Squidvicious noted, the Multnomah pavement closure was only initially due to the burn, then again last year due to the rockfall, and then this year due to COVID crowding. (I'm not sure how much of it is open now Closed from the lower viewing platform to the junction with Wahkeena. But, you no lo...

Re: Will the Nesmith point trail ever reopen?

I was referring to the paved switchbacking section to the upper platform. I got the impression that was closed after initial reopening, due to rockfall. That was back in the spring of 2019, which I'm pretty sure was approximately 3000 years ago. Or maybe just feels like it at this point. It was clo...

Angel's - Devil's Rest loop from Wahkeena?

Trying to figure out if this is (1) technically open, and (2) reasonably hikeable. There are still some closure maps up that show the section of #415 trail between Wahkeena Springs and Angel's Rest as closed, but on the FS website it just lists the trail as open, with no qualifiers about sections be...

Re: Please don't be like this guy

In all seriousness, I think it would be very reasonable to forward this email to the forest service with a note that you found it alarming, and something they might want to follow up on with the guy. Now I'm curious exactly how it is posted. The fact that he quoted the specific date of September 30,...

Re: Please don't be like this guy

Wait, there's been fires in the area? You'd think somebody would have said something.

Re: Larch Mountain Crater Loop

I was back there today and it seems the trunk has snapped, leaving what looks like it would be a fairly easy gap to walk through now (I didn't actually go that way today). The blind tangle of branches I stepped through the other day were broken and trampled down leaving a path, -ish. The problem is ...

Larch Mountain Crater Loop

There is a significant blockage at the junction of Larch Mtn Trail and Multnomah Creek Way, blocking the turn onto Multnomah Creek Way. You'd be hard pressed to even notice there's a junction there if it weren't for the signs. As usual I forgot to take pictures. But it's a big tree, possibly tangled...
