Re: Cougars, Bears, Firearns, and Creepy Trails

My safety is my responsibility Actually no, in this scenario MY safety is your responsibility. That's the problem. But since you just joined only to make a single post about hiking with firearms, and a quick google shows your username only coming up associated with forums like AR15.com, m4carbine.n...

Re: Cougars, Bears, Firearns, and Creepy Trails

The thought of an armed person on the trail who freaks out when they hear some twigs breaking on "creepy" trails concerns me FAR FAR more than any bears or cougars--both of which I have seen, and neither of which had the least interest in me.

I'm also a little irked that I can't set up an account with less than $20 in it.
Looks like when you go to top it off, it has to be to a minimum of $20 as well.

Re: Fresh log down across Larch Mtn trail

To update: this has now been cleared, along with a couple other small obstructions along the loop.

Just when I was growing to like the thing

Re: Bridge of the Gods Breezeby

On first glance I thought you were saying they were raising the regular toll again from $2 to $2.50, and I was preparing to be all outraged. Thanks for the info. I'm cheapskate enough that I actually just avoid crossing there as much as I can, but this seems like a reasonable compromise. So just a s...

Re: Off Trail Hiking Policy in National Forests

Cell phones ARE maps/compasses. (But bring an extra battery.) Sure. Until you drop it and it breaks, or it gets wet and it doesn't work, or it gets too cold and it doesn't work, or you pre-loaded the maps for the area you meant to be in, but not for where you actually wandered off to, or any one of...

Ditto for Oneonta, which I assume is also high priority (but I don't think they've started working on yet).
The latest Scene newsletter & facebook update mentions a NPS crew working on Horsetail and Oneonta. Couple of pics on the post--doesn't look nice.

Re: Eagle Creek Trail

Ironically, the Mazamas (who got these trails open) are now forbidden from hiking them during the summer months effective this year. Can I get an elaboration on this, or a link describing it? I did a search and did not find anything. I assume that's referring to this: https://www.oregonhikers.org/f...

Re: Lost gloves, Wahkeena trail, Nov. 10

I came through there this morning. I kept my eyes open on the trail, and scanned around at the trailhead on the benches, walls, and other places people tend to set found items, but I didn't spot anything. Sorry.
