Re: May 2024 Backpacking

Other options that might work: Lewis River, and more specifically the Quartz Creek trail. Siouxon area. This was burned a couple years ago and I don’t know about current condition. Hoh Rainforest / Duckabush (Olympics) Rogue River a trail (6 hour drive but amazing trip) Illinois River (also a long d...

Re: Timberline Trail Backpacking Itinerary and Questions

September is the ideal month for more popular trips like this one because everyone else has gone home but the weather is still good. I plan my annual “big” trips for September

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

Re: New Section Hiker

There are thousands of miles of vastly superior loops hikes in the northwest. There is no reason to limit yourself to the PCT. If you would like suggestions, just ask. I would also recommend Douglas Lorraine’s “Backpacking” series of books for longer backpack trips in OR, CA, WA, and ID. The logisti...

Re: Two day backpacking trip recommendations

Last year I ventured out to Cast Lake near mt hood when my trip to wherever else blocked by snow or fire or whatever it was. Re: Two day backpacking trip recommendations

I’m fully prepared for winter hammocking, but I don’t have spikes, shoes, short skies, or other snow going items.

Where would good locations for snow trekking include?

Re: Two day backpacking trip recommendations

Drift Creek Wilderness near Lincoln city has an early spring trail, but its a long drive for a short, mediocre hike. Gales Creek is technically backpackable at the 5-mile point, but its not much of a campsite, assuming the parking lot gate is open to begin with. See: snow in foothills. Again, not th...

Re: Two day backpacking trip recommendations

If you are willing to drive south a ways, the Illinois River and Rogue river have opportunities, but otherwise this is just too early for backpacking. I’m seeing snow on the local foothills, so ever lower elevation hikes will have snow right now.
