Re: Elk Creek to Elk Mountain Loop

Was there yesterday, did the same loop but up Elk and down Elk Creek. Been up Elk many times but this was the first that included Elk Creek. It was a little underwhelming compared to an up and down or Elk-Kings loop but still enjoyable. Challenging and fun. One of if not the best hill in the coast r...

Re: McNeil Point, 8/19/18, or A Defense of Hiking in Crowds

I visited Top Spur for the first time 3 weeks ago. That first glimpse of Hood around the bend is amazing. Did McNeil Point that day (missed the cutoff scramble to the hut somehow and ended up going the main route, but I'd go back to do it). Wnshall is right about it not being as overrun as S.Sister....

Re: Mt Hood, timberline, west and north: biting flies

I did McNeil from Top Spur today.
No flies on the way up early. It was chilly.

Coldwater Peak from the South Trailhead.
14 miles. 3,500 feet EG.
Unbelievable scenery.
Still my favorite.

Re: St Helens: west crater rim

I asked because this "route" intrigues me. I never thought of trying to summit from anywhere but MR or WF.

Re: St Helens: Crescent Ridge above Loowit Trail

I though I saw footprints on snow today.
Somewhere near Crescent Ridge I think.
They were too big to be goats.

Blue Lake to Sheep Canyon

What an awesome hike. Bugs were whack. Picaridin really works. Not a bite. Road is better than Grouse Vista. Or at least the same. There's a trailbridge, for lack of a better term, from the rocky start into the forest. No problem crossing the stream. Blue Lake ain't much of a destination. Took the l...

Awesome Chip.
Looking forward to a homebrewed pineapple cider on the trail.
Cheers.
