Re: Rooster Rock Wagon Trail

furthermore it is impossible to absorb Covid viral load in 1-2 second passing of another individual while hiking on a remote trail outdoors. No, it's not . It's unlikely, rather unlikely especially on remote trails with few people, but it is not in fact impossible, and it is irresponsible to say so...

Re: Rooster Rock Wagon Trail

Do you seriously think you can get C-19 briefly passing fellow hikers in the middle of nowhere? It's an airborne disease, so, yes. This past winter when it was cold enough to see my breath it really hit me just how much of a cloud of particles I put out into the world with every single breath. If I...

Re: The secrets of Forest Park

Fun stuff here. A couple additions: 1. The fenced-off hole at the top of Holman Lane now has a second sign mentioning that it is a sinkhole. 2. Firelane 12 doesn't actually end in a back yard, but at the end of a small residential street off Highway 30. I often start there and hike up to the Wildwo...

Huge Dodson landslide

Didn't see anything posted here, so I was surprised to see 84 was partially closed when I was driving to the gorge this past weekend, then saw a huge landslide had covered the freeway exit to Dodson on Wednesday, where you'd turn off to go to the Yeon trailhead. Looks like the slide was big enough t...

Re: The secrets of Forest Park

I've actually found several more abandoned road grades since making this thread if anyone is interested. Word of note, the last time I went down Firelane 11 I was able to better track it after it leaves the ridgetop halfway down, and I came across what is clearly an elaborate hidden shelter by some...

Re: The secrets of Forest Park

I walked/jogged Firelane 14 again yesterday. It was clearly graded for a road at one time, with that big chunky gravel underneath. I think somebody decided it wasn't worth it, dug up the culverts, and decided to let it return to nature. I found more evidence for your Firelane 11 on this historical ...

Re: Archer Mountain, scorched and mostly off-limits

So I was out on Archer today for the first time ever, I've been working up the nerve to try it for years now and I was intrigued by the "new trails". They do indeed avoid the burn almost completely, but it gets confusing near the summit. Someone has put signage at the beginning of a new path down to...

Re: Blue Basin Overlook Trail

I did this with my wife about 4 years ago on an eastern Oregon road trip. It was very hot as there is no cover but it was a great little loop. I think we did it in the reverse direction so we climbed up fast and then had a leisurely walk back around and down. Did you take the quick trail into the mi...

Re: steep trails

Out of every trail mentioned so far Elk Mountain is the one that always destroys me. Everything else will get me sweating and in rough shape, but Elk Mountain has made me actively hate life both times I've done it. Most of the good ones have been mentioned already but I would like to throw in a vote...

Re: I hate ticks

On the way back from Rogue River, I found one on my back At home I found another. Waiting to see if rash expands forming "bullseye"... I'm sure you know this already but the bullseye might not show up. It didn't for me. Keep an eye on how you feel in a month because that's when everything starts to...
