Re: ZigZag Creek above PCT crossing

Is there a name for either of those falls above the Zigzag crossing?

Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

What we really need is a change in the weather pattern. Hopefully that will come in a week or so. September is usually one of the nicer months around here but I wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of days of steady rain. 6_to_10_Day_Outlook_-_2017-09-09_17.52.12.jpg As long as that RRR is parked off our c...

Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

What does it take to get some rain around here when you want it? There is a conspicuous cut-out of rain clouds around Portland and the gorge. OR_RAIN.JPG Looks like some hope for the cascades fires, though. Or is it not enough precipitation to make up for the inevitable lightning that will come wit...

Re: Eagle Creek Trail (Gorge) Closed by Fire (July 5)

will the tunnel collapse if the timbers burn? Most likely not, they restored that tunnel a few years back but the timbers before that were pretty heavily compromised and it didn't fail (wasn't safe, but didn't fail)... That said, fires are notorious for destabilizing the terrain, and there are slid...

Re: Ryan Zinke, Dept Interior (NPS, BLM, USFWS)

I don't really understand what National Monument status does. As far as I can tell all this land had to already be federal public property before it could become a NM, and not at risk for being sold off even without NM status unless worse things come to pass. (i.e. general public land sell-offs.) I...

Re: Totality on Sutton Mt. 2017/08/21

Your shot of the people looking at totality is one of the better photos I've seen of this event. I've seen 800 pictures of a cresent sun, but less than 5 of the reaction. And far more interesting.

Re: Gray Butte eclipse viewing

An eclipse does not move at a constant speed. Oregon was at "the beginning" of the eclipse window and the shadow hit us more obliquely the same way the morning/afternoon sun does. If you are in such an area then the shadow is moving much faster. On the coast, it was estimated the shadow moved a litt...

Re: Looks like that must have been fun, but where was I?

The Ball Pit at the Chuck E Cheese on SE 92nd & Sandy. I've awoken the same way there as well. I'm contemplating a return visit in four years when my 20-yr ban is lifted.
