Re: Flagging In The Gorge

I and many other wildlife biologists use(d) flagging for many different purposes. Sometimes in huge quantities for helping other people find their way during nocturnal work. I'm assuming this keeps coming back because someone wants it there, possibly even for a useful purpose.

IP Address Blacklisted

I got a message my IP address is blacklisted when I tried to post.

I used a VPN to get around that but I'm not sure this is a good security measure as it's implemented since I'm with Century Link and have a dynamic IP I have no control over (other than I know how and why to use a VPN).

Re: Best Day of the Week to Hike

Every year they post statistics for the Mount Whitney permit lottery that show which days were the most requested. See if the Central Cascades permit program has similar data available. Days of the week in order of highest demand/use Saturday Friday Sunday Thursday Monday Tuesday* Wednesday* *essen...

Re: Best Day of the Week to Hike

I used to hike on Tuesdays and there were pretty great. I suppose Tuesday-Thursday are probably fine, I just was curious if there might be like some strange phenomenon where everyone goes out on a certain day.

Best Day of the Week to Hike

I decided I'm going to take a day off of work each month to hike and I'm wondering if there's any opinions (or data) on the weekday with the least crowds. I'm already thinking Friday isn't going to be great as I don't get up too early and people will be starting weekends early.

Re: as if I needed one more reason to tell REI to piss off

I have more of a problem with them changing the credit card from USBank to CapitalOne with no input from shareholders.

Then when I asked them to delete my information they said they couldn't do it unless I lived in CA which just means that they refused to.

I'd rather be woke than bigoted though

Data Insights from 10,000 Garmin inReach® SOS Incidents

Garmin published some analysis of their inReach SOS incidents a couple days ago. Solo, injured, hiker are the top categories however they didn't really go very 3d on the data so we don't know how much overlap these categories had. Looking forward to seeing what happens with the upcoming Apple and T-...
