Re: Goat Lake loop -- 07/24/21

Nice TR. Although GR has been getting a little attention lately, it tends to be overlooked somewhat. A familiar phenomenon: If Adams and Rainier weren't there, GR would be a gem.

I'm trying to remember if Goat Lake is visible from PCT. I doubt it. That's probably good. Keeps it a bit of a secret.

Re: Survey for Silver Star/Yacolt Burn Area Development

Wow. That "survey" was so chocked with ads and spam and bullshit, I aborted. It was probably pointless anyway. Authorities decide what they're going to do, then twist and manipulate "public feedback" to justify it.

That's six bear sightings in less than a month. Lucky me!
I've got my balloons, and Don has his bears. :D

Re: Bear on Archer Mt.

Getting a bear pic is easy. But 99.9% of them are butt shots. Most people are skeptical, but it really is true: they're more scared of us than we are of them. Much like bees, if you know what to do, you're almost certainly going to be fine. Congrats on startling one (you're not supposed to do that)....

Yep. It's an old rocky road, so it will persist for many years to come.

I wonder if the bootpath/rockclimb continues all the way to the top of the ridge and the Zigzag Mt. Trail?

Re: DEET Disaster Cleanup?

I stopped at my favorite outdoor store on Friday to purchase mosquito repellent; which I had not done in many years. After chatting with the clerk I bought a bottle of 100% DEET. Hey Rob, sorry about your mess. I don't have any tips, but wanted to observe your favorite outdoor store let you down. 1...

Re: unplanned bivy on St Helens: anatomy of a disaster

There is a common denominator in a lot of these stories (emphasis added): I signed in to the trailhead guest book and followed the route on my downloaded AllTrails map. I did it without map or GPS. I wonder what that says about me. :? I've never used AllTrails, but I just looked up their Wormflows ...
