Want to see more hummingbirds? Wear red!

Hummingbirds have been really friendly with me lately. In fact, today they were downright aggressive. One even hovered right in front of my face. Not that I mind; they're interesting creatures, fun to watch. I wondered if my new red shirt might have something to do with it. My first google result to...

Re: 2021 Snow Level

Three Corner Rock is bare (including the surrounding beargrass meadow). There was just one little patch on the road to the towers. Below is an elevation profile of the route from Skamania Mountain to TCR. It was maybe 95% clear. I could see Lookout Mountain and Little Lookout Mountain are essentiall...

Three Corner Rock from Skamania Mtn

I've been to Skamania Mountain and Three Corner Rock many times. Today I connected them. Arrived at a gate that I've never seen open. Decided not to take a chance, parked outside the gate. Gate was locked when I returned, so I made the right decision. There was some logging activity, so I had to tak...

Punchbowl Falls (verified with binoculars).
Nice! Totally counts, you don't need to put your hands on it.

Re: Condition of Russ Jolley Cabin: Was it burned?

It was decomposing fast. Even if it survived the fire, there would be very little left now.

Re: a different kind of volunteer opportunity on Silver Star, road 4109

Interesting that we have enough resources to remove a gate and decommission a road in a popular OHV area nearby, but nothing can be done to preserve Silver Star.

Re: 2021 Snow Level

Larch Mountain, WA: Tarbell Trail at 3300' was a little snowy, but almost melted out. Continuing up to the top of Larch (3500') snow was fairly consistent, but there were bare spots. Larch summit was bare, as were the sunny roads on the south side. Silver Star: I didn't visit, but I could see there ...

With lumber prices sky-high, I was surprised to see this.
