Re: Green Point Mountain - 5/12/19

Aha! I mistakenly assumed the pic was taken from Hamilton (my error, Burnside never said it was), and then Burnside's follow up explanation left me confused. I know exactly where that pic was taken, been there a few times, now it seems so obvious. Thanks Don! A workout, indeed! Can't believe I'm act...

Re: Green Point Mountain - 5/12/19

I should have paid more attention to your report before I headed up there today.
Snow!
I figured it would be all gone.
I liked the challenge though.

Your first pic has me perplexed. Doesn't look like Hamilton, nor do I see anything consistent with GP across the way.

Green Point Mountain 5/18/2019

Just a few days behind Burnside, I made my first visit to Green Point Mountain. From Herman Creek trail, I took Casey Creek Trail up to Nick Eaton Ridge. Yep, as the field guide warns, it's a mess. I finally gave up trying to follow it, and just headed directly upslope. Found it again, then lost it ...

Re: Wygant Peak 5-12-19

I too would like to see something done with Shellrock. There's remnants left, and it's worth restoring. But with the fire damage, possible safety concerns, and HCRH construction, maybe think of it as a long-term possibility.

Re: The Memaloose Hills and Social Media

The great irony is that I had never heard of this place until now, and now I want to go! But I dont care about flowers, and I hate crowds, so maybe in October, or early on a weekday. Know what the difference is between an official U$F$ trail and a user trail? One of them is "managed" by jackbooted t...

Re: Wygant Peak 5-12-19

I encountered a work party last year. Perhaps you were there when I strolled through. I actually liked the trail the way it was, but Wygant is horrible for PO and ticks, so a wide trail has its advantages. There's one more off-trail route I want to try, and then the trail back down. I was hoping to ...

Re: Smacked by tree loaded by snow

I've seen it (here) called "the mousetrap effect". Similar story: On the notorious Wauna-to-Wauna scramble/bushwhack, I tucked a branch behind another so I could squeeze through, and in doing so I mused "I'll have to be careful; if that branch comes loose it might whack me right in the..." Re: Dryer "Glacier" (Mt Hood)

Our little May heat wave drove me up to an alpine trip a little earlier than usual. I suppose that's a good thing. I went back to ascend the west lobe of Dryer Glacier, knowing it would be continuous snow this time. But what really took me back was my desire to see the upper White River canyon in sp...
