Re: Mt Adams / Yakama / Tract D Provisional Opening

Except that it got delayed another week. I also don't know where you're seeing that forecast. The NOAA low for night at 5300' is 45*. Oh no! I just checked this thread one last time before starting to pack, and miraculously realized you wrote "delayed another week"! Sept 28 is now the scheduled ope...

Re: US Ski Team pin found

I didn't lose a ski team pin but I lost a package of sausage wrapped in plastic, in the snow :) As you're headed up towards the crater, with White River glacier on your right, there's an extremely obvious flat spot around 9800', the last really good viewpoint and rest spot before the final push to ...

US Ski Team pin found

I wondered if this might be a readily available souvenir. A little research suggests it probably is, but I'm not sure. Hard to imagine a team member would actually wear their pin out and about. Anyway, just in case, posting it. Bonus L&F: Sausage. I didn't pick it up, but I can tell you where I spot...

Re: Mt Adams / Yakama / Tract D Provisional Opening

Well, yeah...I also checked the Timberline Lodge forecast, and it was much much warmer. Hmm. Either way, I think I'll go check it out, but be prepared for the worst. update: 50% chance of snow Sat PM at Trout Lake, per NOAA My alternate weather source is Mountain Weather, and their forecast is more ...

Re: Mt Adams / Yakama / Tract D Provisional Opening

NOAA predicts snow below 2000' tonight/Saturday (Trout Lake forecast). The Mirror Lake gate is 5300', and of course the trailheads are higher. Visitors will typically drive to 5600' or a little higher. Drat. :| On Hood, we can monitor cams at Timberline/Meadows to see what develops, but on Adams I t...

Re: All Firearms Discussions in This Thread

Shelly Ann, you've had an unusual number of aggressive animal encounters. Maybe you need to change your fabric softener brand, or whatever it is that makes the critters stalk you. ;)

Re: All Firearms Discussions in This Thread

Washington County has seen a ten-fold increase in concealed handgun applications. That started in 2009 and has continued ever since. They've had to hire two additional staff members and still it's not meeting demand, so they're employing a couple of "temps" as well (to handle stuff like fingerprint...

I've never seen them so low!
Weren't you the one who spotted a goat on the southeast side of Dog Mountain?
Dammit! Now I have to admit I'm either a liar or an idiot. :|

Re: Trapper Creek fire

I was thinking of camping in the Indian Heaven Wilderness but this fire seems way to close to risk it. Yeah, I can't even imagine it being pleasant at all, what with the tossing and turning all night, dreaming of fire, wondering if you'll be able to get out in the morning. I'm actually leery of eve...

Re: Goat Rocks Wilderness: Hogback Mt. & Pigtail Peak 090720

I don't know what that spire is called in the right center but it sure looked impressive. It doesn't have a name, at least not on the topo maps. Don't you hate that? If it were in Iowa, it'd be the centerpiece of a National Park! Interesting to note that there are hundreds [edit: thousands  ...
