Paulina Lake (or other hot springs) in winter?

Hey folks, I am headed to Bend/Sunriver area this December and I want to hit some hot springs. Have anyone been to the Paulina Lake one at Newberry Crater in the winter? How accessible is it in the snow, as in, will we even be able to find it? We will be snowshoeing, but driving up to one will be gr...

Shamrock Run and/or snow camping

First of all.. just putting it out there in case any of y'all are interested! Anyone doing the Shamrock run? I want to do the 8k. Will be registering soon but if I can get a few people together, we can all save a couple of bucks. It doesn't mean we have to RUN together though. Second. Snow camping a...

First of season snowshoe?

So, I heard tell that there was a mighty storm over the weekend and there now be SNOW up on them mountains. Or, more specifically, Mt. Hood! I'm free either Tuesday or Wednesday for those who want to venture up there for a little bit of snowshoeing to warm us up for the winter season. Any interests?...

Re: Death March 09

Ooooh. Intriguing! I'm totally interested in this.

I once drove 30+ hours without any sleep.. hey, I was in my early early 20's.. we were allowed to do stupid things. Anyway, it wasn't an experience I want to.. um, experience again. But hiking it? HELL YEAH! I really want to give it a go.

Re: Wind River Mountains Backpack August 17-23ish

Yup. Not this coming week (moving, ugh), but I'm usually free weekdays, or most evenings.

I wish I know some backpacking friends I can invite, too. But, alas, I'm lucky to get anyone to even go on a day hike with me!

Re: Wind River Mountains Backpack August 17-23ish

This sounds very very intriguing, and FUN! I'm all for it, provided it doesn't go farther than the 23rd. Actually, if possible, a few days before the 23rd would be awesome. Please keep me updated on your plans! I'm still new to backpacking. I've done several overnight trips and packed for a 2-night ...

Re: Ape Cave - Road 8303

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm fairly confident that the road should be snow-free by this weekend, but, like drm pointed out, there could be debris on the road that'd make it impossible to travel. I don't remember ever seeing a gate or other structures that could close the road except at the par...

Re: Cannon vs Nikon

I have always used Canon. I am not a mega photography hobbyist, but am into it enough to use more than the standard point-and-shoots, and I have yet to be disappointed by their quality in both the body and images. Actually, I think I'm just brand loyal because my father used Canon. My earliest memor...
