Looking glass lake, MT Adams
This past Sunday (24th) I drove up to the Morrison Creek CG (via FS 8040) to access the Shorthorn TH (#16) on the south side of MT Adams, just a few miles down the road from the South climb trail. From the Shorthorn trail it is a hike up about 1300 ft to the Round the mtn trail (#9). Once on this tr...

Hoh river, Olympics
I spent 7 days, the last week of June, to take my time hiking up the Hoh river trail in the Olympic National Park. Thing to note is backcountry campsites cost $5 a night and some need to be reserved, so visit the Olympic Park website for the details prior to going out. Also, to get to the Hoh River ...

Re: Shorthorn Trail to Round the Mountain Trail, Mount Adams
Thanks for the pictures- I backpacked up this past Monday from the Wicky 39A TH down to the Morrison trail and then on up as far the Southhorn meadow and made camp once I hit the snow drifts and when the rain/sleet kicked in. I wanted to see if I could get over to Lookingglass lake but the weather c...

Wyeth TH to North Lake 5/2/16
On Monday my hiking buddy, Jim, and I headed up from the Wyeth TH to North Lake in the gorge. From the TH to the Lake there were roughly 40 switch backs (4220 eg), so yep it was a lot of up hill and almost as tough coming back down, knees and legs took a pounding. Snow patches started a ways past th...

Re: Wahkeena scat
About 4 years ago I saw a black bear about little over 3 miles in from the Multnomah falls trailhead. We saw him coming down the slope on the other side of the creek and then cross over to the trail we were on. He then started down towards us and then finally realized we were hiding behind a tree wa...

Multnomah falls to Larch mtn- snow report 1/25/16
Took advantage of the rare sunshine and hiked up from Multnomah falls to Larch mountain on Monday. A few snow patches starting around 1300 ft. Trail snow covered from after the last log bridge crossing around 2100 ft to the top, 1 to almost 3 feet deep. I carried my snow shoes but none were needed, ...
