Re: Mushroom ID -- Bonanza Trail

Aha! 'Earth stars', presumably:

I like that 'the Blackfoot of North America called the fungus "fallen stars", considering them to be stars fallen to the earth during supernatural events.'

Old Baldy (west portion) - helipad? lookout? wha'?

Finally hiked the full west part of Old Baldy trail today and the weather was perfect and the mushrooms abundant and varied. I have a question: why are there no noticeable remains of a lookout station that was supposedly decommissioned in the 60s? You'd think there'd be some visible evidence of it. ...

Re: Storm-Watching on McIntyre Ridge - 6/29/19

I can confirm that a load of hail was indeed dumped on 6/29 on Hood -- because I was under it, soaking wet, en route out of Sahalie Falls. Thanks for explaining the ORV tracks I saw on the trail (and resultant mess of shotgun shells at otherwise nice viewpoint), described in my report here: https://...

Don, those photos are shocking. Where'd that take place?

Justpeachy, thanks for the info. I'll contact the FS to ask about the road reopening, and will report back.

Mcintyre Ridge 6-21-19: shotgun shell cleanup

From the quarry, hiked east on Douglas Trail onto Mcintyre Ridge. This time I hiked further than I have in the past, ending not too far from the northern wilderness boundary. Alas, at a lovely viewpoint, there were fairly fresh ATV (?) tracks -- I could not figure out where they originated! -- and t...

Re: Fall Creek Falls: beauty and regret

FYI, tried going back here yesterday. Weyerhauser has the access road from the NF road gated off with a clear sign saying NO TRESPASSING. Sad. If anyone knows a way in, please post it here!

Re: The other eagle creek road closed

Went up yesterday. There is now a formal burn-embossed forest service sign at the trailhead. Darn, this means it's easier for others to find. :)

Huge bloom of scotch broom in the area and at beginning of trail. I don't recall seeing that before...

Lovely lilies too!
