Re: May 2024 Backpacking

Some of the coast backpacks are very nice. Tahkenitch Dunes or Siltcoos Lake loop are however more like 3 hour drive from Portland.

Some of the trails like Badger Ck or Lower Badger Ck on the east side of Mt Hood are below snow and dont get too crowded.

Re: Riverside Trail-Ferry Springs Loop (April 7)

Ferry Springs has quite a bit of watercress. I am not sure how safe it is to eat. I've only nibbled a little bit.

Re: Hiking Pacific Crest Trail to Belknap Craters & Beyond! (Crosses Vast Volcanic Lava Field)

Nice report and video. Another very large lava field worth visiting in Oregon is Jordan Craters. http://www.hillmap.com/m/ag1zfmhpbGxtYXAtaGRychULEghTYXZlZE1hcBiAgIDZvpmoCww https://thumbnails-photos.amazon.com/v1/thumbnail/98otC7gXTASB3VK89-7LJA?viewBox=922%2C691&ownerId=A11M5XEEHZBXEO&groupShareTo...

It's hard to mentally filter out your youtube links when the trip report page is inundated with them. TrailPerspective has created 5 trip reports in the last month. Hard to call that inundated or be offended by them. I am one that appreciates the time TrailPerspective spends creating these reports.

Re: Exploring/Reviewing Timothy Lake (a crown jewel of Mount Hood National Forest)

I lead a backpack trip for Boy Scouts around the lake and we camped for free at the north end somewhat close to Little Crater Lake. There was also a really nice free site on the east shore.

Re: Bear Lake Loop

I've done various backpack trips with my son in Indian Heaven. We've done well fishing at the busier lakes, but never wanted to camp there because of too many people. Acker is so close by and there is a lots of huckleberries. There are some other more secluded places to camp near the unnamed lakes/p...

This is American char fish, I think (smth between salmon and trout)
That is a Brook Trout...which is in the Char genus.

Re: distressing signs at new Grouse Vista TH kiosk

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

Re: Jefferson Park Fishing?

I tried a few casts years ago at Park Lake and caught a brookie. I figure the other bigger and deeper lakes would be much better to fish but never tried them. Bays and Scout are stocked with triploid brook trout. Russel is stocked with triploid rainbow.
