Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

St Helens/Harry's Ridge this past Tuesday (3/19). Looked very winter-like, but most places had just 1-2 feet of snow, that will go fast when the warmth returns. Silver Falls 1/9/24

I finally visited Silver Falls for the first time, back in January and just before the ice storm. Went on the Loop of 10 Falls but only did 8 because I spent a lot of time doing video takes (just got a gopro which probably saved my phone - going behind the falls was like going through a car wash!). ...

Re: Exploring/Reviewing Timothy Lake (a crown jewel of Mount Hood National Forest)

Thanks for the PDF map on dispersed campsites! I did the loop around Timothy LONG time ago (10 years ago?) and while the lake was awesome (and very quiet, before the big campsites reopened), it was sad to see most of backcountry campsites posted closed at that time. The only ones weren't posted, wer...

Re: Overnight in Elk Meadows 9/29/2022

Beautiful photos of Mt. Hood with fresh snow!
And great to see there was a good soaker up there too (at least in the vicinity of the mountain). We need more rain.

Fire on Silver Star?

Or maybe (Washington's) Larch Mtn? Hard to tell in the dark. Visible directly east from Vancouver.

Definitely wasn't there yesterday..

Goat Rocks (Hawkeye) snow update July 8-10

Can't post a full trip report tonight, but if anyone is interested in conditions up there I'll do a quick update. Note that it was a week ago, so snow conditions likely improved quite a bit. Went up Goat Ridge trail up to Hawkeye Peak summit. 2 nights in Jordan Basin. Failed going to Goat Lake from ...

Re: 2021 Bug Conditions Reports

Don't see if someone mentioned Goat Rocks, but last weekend mosquitoes were noticeable. Not too bad, but I used head net and bug spray in camp. Mosquitoes increased in numbers over 3 days, so I guess it wasn't past peak season yet. Snow, OTOH, is mostly gone (more like end of August) and if you're i...
