Re: Overnight in Elk Meadows 9/29/2022

Beautiful photos of Mt. Hood with fresh snow!
And great to see there was a good soaker up there too (at least in the vicinity of the mountain). We need more rain.

Fire on Silver Star?

Or maybe (Washington's) Larch Mtn? Hard to tell in the dark. Visible directly east from Vancouver.

Definitely wasn't there yesterday..

Goat Rocks (Hawkeye) snow update July 8-10

Can't post a full trip report tonight, but if anyone is interested in conditions up there I'll do a quick update. Note that it was a week ago, so snow conditions likely improved quite a bit. Went up Goat Ridge trail up to Hawkeye Peak summit. 2 nights in Jordan Basin. Failed going to Goat Lake from ...

Re: 2021 Bug Conditions Reports

Don't see if someone mentioned Goat Rocks, but last weekend mosquitoes were noticeable. Not too bad, but I used head net and bug spray in camp. Mosquitoes increased in numbers over 3 days, so I guess it wasn't past peak season yet. Snow, OTOH, is mostly gone (more like end of August) and if you're i...

Re: Silver Star Mt Backpack

There was a half-cut blue barrel to collect water a few years ago, the spring was running well in the middle of summer. I haven't visited it in a while though. It's blue diamond on this map, just off Sturgeon Rock trail.

Re: Mt. Margaret Backcountry - 6.30.2021

Great detail and photos - thanks for sharing! That area is gorgeous, especially in the fall when fields of huckleberry turn red and orange. I think they need to do away with camping restrictions in Margaret Backcountry, now that vegetation/brush is back 40 years post eruption, pretty much keeping pe...

Re: Lake Wapiki

That's very nice! My favorite time to hit IHW too, never seen people on Wapiki with snow. Last Sunday Wood Lake looked just a bit more melted than Walpiki Lake in your pictures (and it's almost 500' lower) and snow line was at about 4600'. Such a difference a few days make! But good thing is, mosqui...

Re: Leslie Gulch (Owyhee) 5-16-21

Wow - that looks spectacular! I have to make a trip there next spring, didn't know there's fair bit of hiking options possible around Leslie Gulch. Should be worth the long drive.
