Re: Grayback Mountain (Simcoe Mts.) 5-23-20

Thanks for the information Bobcat! Such a cool area, nice to see it's open for camping. It's a long drive, but with overnight stay it should be worth the trip. SDS/SLC/Broughton are cool too. Weyerhaeuser can take a flying leap. Exactly. Should be model for Weyerhaeuser too, rather than lettin...

Re: Washington State Parks opening - Yeah!

Haven't listened, but today Skamania voted to apply for Phase II , for reopening activities including camping. I think this has yet to be signed by WA governor. OPB interviewed Skamania County Chair who said" the reopening of Columbia Gorge recreation sites to unfold “at a reasonable pace.” “We’re g...

Re: nocturnal Wildwood in pandemic times

No, didn't look at Muddy Fork Rd. I may head that way again in a few days, and will check it out.

Re: nocturnal Wildwood in pandemic times

Agree these current measures are poorly planned. I rarely see other people on hikes - but now they want everyone to be in the same crowded places. Costco's and Walmart's parking lots in Vancouver are packed  A lot of outdoor stuff is still open. They said the coast in Clatsop county is mostly ...

Re: Superstitions - Treasure Island

Spectacular photos!

Been to other parts of Arizona but never spent time in the Phoenix area, now your reports make me rethink it. Just spent an hour in Google Earth and there's so many places to see.. Maybe next winter :)

Re: Covid-19

Makes sense. I was hoping for a loophole but with no parking rule it looks like they wanted to close everything, just haven't worded it well. In the coming months we'll see more people coming there and how it works (or doesn't work out) ;)

Re: Covid-19

Can someone clarify Skamania County closure - they seem to only restrict hiking and access to "hiking destinations", and not recreational activity or access in general (as opposed to USFS blanket ban in the Scenic Area). Is it still legal to drive around in GPNF? What about car camping? Cycling/"bik...

Re: road conditions

Haven't done this road, but one time we rented an SUV for a vacation so we could drive some crappy roads. Discovered all rental SUV's and trucks come with a plastic "skirt" under front bumper, to lower ground clearance (probably to discourage this kind of driving). If you plan to drive off paved roa...

Re: Wallowas Super Loop: 8/1/19-8/2/19

Stunning loop, Brad - thanks for sharing and good maps. This is full vacation worth of views (and miles), in just 2 days. Last time at Wallowa Lake I didn't ride the tram, but now it's on my list - also good for getting up high early in the morning, with lesser chance of t-storms.

Re: Goat Rocks update (and storm watching)

The mosquito shot was compelling! Good thing was, they weren't like this everywhere. Some places mozzies were swarming, in other places there were almost none (in general, the lower on the trail, the fewer they were). Used my head net and rain coat when I needed to stop, worked great :) Nice trip, ...
