Re: Snowshoeing near Hood River

This site's Field Guide has quite a few options. If you click on area on the map ( https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Mount_Hood_Hikes ) most of the hikes that start along SR-35 and SR-26 will do, as well as nearby hikes in the Gorge - hikes get more flat the more you go East on I-84. You'll n...

Re: Silver Star & Some Snow via Grouse Vista (01/26/2019)

Nice day to be up there! Somehow, I haven't hiked from Grouse Vista in quite a few years - that's a fine trail. Good to know there's no real snow to the trailhead right now (& I think we won't get more than a few inches in the coming days).

Re: Umbrella Falls trail in winter

You had a nice hike, even though it was shorter than planned. It's similar to my experience trying to hike at ski area (west of Timberline Lodge), I haven't seen officials but had a few close calls with snowboarders and they were not very happy ;) . I prefer waiting till May-June for snow to really ...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

Yes, I "like" how they say say no money for USPS or national parks, then give a trillion dollars to the military. Priorities first ;). And so few people who decide what priorities are.

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

I ain't paying no extra fee for the privilege of hiking on public lands that I already pay taxes to have administered. Not going to happen. I am well-off enough that I can afford a decent lawyer, and I'll fight it. Screw them. Thanks Bug - let us know if you make any progress. The whole situation j...

Re: Deschutes River November 2018

Looks better than photos right after the fire, not so black (or maybe it didn't burn that hot up there). I bet in as little as 1-2 years new grass will cover most signs of the fire along Deschutes, the area will be back to old self. Did trees at water's edge survive?

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

:? ?? At first this news seemed like a joke or something. We just talked about the possibility in another thread less than 2 weeks ago, and now this.. Isn't just enforcing parking rules sufficient to limit crowds? There's not a lot of legal parking available at Historic Hwy, if they prevent "overflo...

Re: Bridal Veil Plateau is different now

At the tip of your first arrow, that path to the left, was that covered? If this trail followed road bed to the left, at the tip of first arrow, it's been covered real well. The trail/road I took to the right, it was more hikeable. I don't seem to have a photo of that junction. However, approx. at ...

Re: Bridal Veil Plateau is different now

Those photos are from the southwestern corner of Foxglove, straight south to Smith Road and then southeast to Palmer Mill Road, right? My route was something like this - I'm not exactly sure which one is Smith Rd? I didn't get close to Foxglove trail or Devil's Rest. Planned a longer hike, but walk...

Re: Permits coming to the Gorge? Mt Hood?

Just you wait, if this goes through there will be a new precedent set and it will be easier for other land managers to follow suit. I heard there's a similar (to what they propose) limit system on trails in California's Sierras. But they have what, 39+ million people. And they get tourists from all...
