Re: Access to Bull of the Woods Wilderness?

You used to be able to go in from Molalla and wind up on 70 but I haven't tried that in 15 years. Also might hit road closures up there as all of the Willamette national forest part of BOTW is still closed. The 46 closure is a mile before 63 so no direct route but looking at a map I think it's possi...

MHNF fire closure update

https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mthood/f ... eprd835619

Saw from a trip report that some new areas were open so I found the updated closure order and map. The roads table hasn't been updated  Looks like you'd have to go in from Timothy lake to access any of it

Nice report and pics! Great news that it's open again! I didn't even know the roads were open yet

maybe they should identify areas where shooting is acceptable
I think this is a really logical idea. There's public infrastructure for hikers, rafters, mountain bikers, and off roaders. Why not target shooters? No it won't stop everyone but it would certainly concentrate most of the shooting.

Re: Best trail car/truck

I had a subaru outback that I dinged the transmission on a rock and had the transmission warning light flashing WAY out past Scotts Mills. It ended up only being a solenoid and it made it back but would only drive in 1st and 3rd until I replaced it. Also, the same car got stuck early season heading ...

Re: Off trail excursion leads to mysterious shrine on tree east of Mt. Hood

Definitely a tree stand. They're expensive so I'd assume someone will be using it again and it's not just abandoned.

Re: Public Lands Getting HAMMERED by Crowds

One big factor driving the concentrated crowds right now is all the areas that are closed from the fires. And sure, I get that national forests are "lands of many uses." That said, I don't think national forests should be treated like a city's downtown or the parking lot outside a football stadium. ...

Proposed new wild and scenic rivers/rules

Didn't see any specific rivers but adds 4700 miles of rivers and expands the limitations on industrial uses from 1/4 miles to 1/2 mile.

I wish this trail was still maintained
It's closed right now d/t fires but I think the trail is officially still maintained? Well, at least as maintained as any of the BOTW trails are.

Steigerwald wildlife refuge

This was closed last time I tried going there so we walked the levee instead. This must be why. Sounds like a win win kind of project. Always nice to read news that isn't dire as usual.
