Road to Grassy Knoll gated (from Carson)

[With the current snow, this is probably a moot point for now, but might be useful in the future]. Last Friday I was going to hike to Big Huckleberry from the Grassy Knoll TH, assuming I could get to (or near) the TH with the snow levels at the time. I was surprised to find Bear Creek Rd/FR 6808 gat...

Re: Greenleaf Slide via Two Chiefs Trail east

Doesn't the east end of Two Chiefs Trail essentially turn into Blue Lake Rd, just SE of Crescent Lake, which is public? Or was it just private land when you were off of the the trail/road?

Re: Skeeters Indian Heaven . . .

On Saturday (6/29), from the northern PCT TH heading south on the PCT, mosquitoes were generally moderately bad, but not too annoying if you kept moving. They were nonexistent in some spots. However, we scrambled up Sawtooth, and on the ridge out in the sun, they were some of the worst I've ever exp...

Re: 2019 Snow Level

As of May 11, FR 23 heading north out of Trout Lake is snow free for about 12 miles, and FR 24 heading west out of Trout Lake is snow free until right before Peterson Prairie.

Hantwick Rd TH - No overnight parking

Can someone make a note on the Hantwick Road Trailhead page that there's no overnight parking there? I did a backpack last weekend using Bells Mountain and Tarbell Trails and parked overnight at Hantwick Rd. Although it is noted in the parking lot that Moulton Falls County Park itself is closed from...

Re: Having a serious food problem on the trail...

I've found a breakfast higher in fat and protein will keep me full for hours (for example, 2 scrambled eggs and some kind of meat in a tortilla eaten on the way to the TH), whereas with something like oatmeal (even with added peanut butter or nuts), I need a snack an hour or two later. When I get re...

Re: Road to Siouxon TH

Great pics, Don! I hiked the Siouxon Peak lollipop yesterday from FR 57/5701 and frankly, think the roads hardly deserve a mention. They're almost all paved but there are several spots where, as teachpdx says, it's slumped and is like going over a curb. Zero need for 4WD, but a super low car might s...

Re: Road to Siouxon TH

Thanks everybody! I think I'm going to attempt it this weekend. If so, I'll report back on conditions.

Road to Siouxon TH

The forest service site says 4WD is recommended to get to the Siouxon TH (road 5701). Having never been, I'm hoping someone can tell me if the road's really that bad.

TIA!!
