Re: Iceland is not in Oregon (but it's very nice!)

I went to Iceland in August 2015 for my honeymoon and it reminded me soooo much of Oregon! We didn't do as much hiking as we originally planned and we did no backpacking as we were "splurging" and stayed in hotels each of the 7 nights we were there. I wanted to move there after we got back and serio...

Re: Minimum pack size / emergency supplies

I've hiked with a few acquaintances over the years and they always seem to comment on and poke fun at the fact that I carry the 10 essentials every hike. However, I know that if I get stuck out overnight unplanned, I'll be safe and not even that uncomfortable. I keep all of my 10 essentials in a stu...

Re: GoalTechHikes Goat Lake Loop - "Epic Hike" 070118

I've always wanted to do the Goat Lake Loop as a day hike, but I've only backpacked it. I am scared off by the long drive back to Portland with that kind of mileage for a day hike. I have wanted to rent a cabin in Packwood, so maybe then I could do this in a day. But I also want to go up for more th...

Re: Crater Lake & Klamath Falls Suggestions Needed

I LOVE Crater Lake! Before I visited, I couldn't understand what made it so great...but I'm a total convert now! For camping: Mazama Village (inside the park)- you can reserve ahead of time, otherwise a pretty standard site. It is close to some food and there are showers, if that is your kind of thi...

Re: Badger Creek with kids June 2-3

I love all the photos of your kiddos! The hot chocolate one should be printed and hung up somewhere, it's super cute! I enjoy seeing adventures with kids. As someone who wants to have kiddos someday (sooner rather than later) and who wants to continue to be active outdoors, I find it really inspirat...

Re: May 3-4 Packwood Lake - Goat Rocks Wilderness

Great first trip report! Thanks for posting. Goat Rocks seems like an amazing place. Nice pictures! Thanks so much!!!! This was my second time to the Goat Rocks Wilderness and I just love it! I spent 4 nights in the area around Labor Day last year, up near Goat Lake and Old Snowy. It’s sooo pretty!...

Re: May 3-4 Packwood Lake - Goat Rocks Wilderness

Thanks The road goes to one end of the lake, and you hiked around to the other end of the lake to camp? That's one place in the Goat Rocks I haven't got to Oh, sorry for the confusion! The trail goes from the TH to the north end of the lake. There’s another TH for horses and motorbikes with a trail...

May 3-4 Packwood Lake - Goat Rocks Wilderness

Johnson Peak and Agnes Island.jpg Hey all! This is my first trip report! I've posted other things, but never a trip report! Anyways, my husband and I got out to do a quick overnight May 3-4 (we have weekdays off and work weekends) out at Packwood Lake in the Goat Rocks Wilderness. I wanted to post ...

Re: Somewhat secluded mountain/gorge hike with good picnic spot to propose this weekend?

YAY! Congrats to you!!!! A few ideas: Saddle Mountain out near towards the Coast. On the weekends, it can be a TOTAL zoo, but I've been for both sunrise and sunset and had the place entirely to myself (and my group). There's also a picnic table at the top for your picnic. Hardy Ridge up near Hamilto...
