Re: What did you find in Satellite photos today?

Michael,

I do see what you are saying about this 'object' being a bloom artifact. That is a much simpler explanation and Occam's Razor cuts through again. Thanks for your bloom comment as this allowed me to learn about CCD overload.

Yours,

Re: What did you find in Satellite photos today?

it's usually something larger than that, solar panels, cars, etc. Maybe the mystery object is the sun glare coming off a moving aerial drone? Houston, we have a theory! Here's my take, based on limited exposure to orthophotos when I worked for the USFS 45 years ago and on internet searches today. O...

Re: What did you find in Satellite photos today?

Another Sat imaging artifact? Yeah, whatever it is, it isn't on the ground. Either a weird artifact or something that was flying below the camera. (We say "satellite" photos, but imagery of this resolution only comes from aircraft.) I concur. Here are two views of the same location from Google Maps...

Re: What did you find in Satellite photos today?

????? along the Colorado River upstream from Moab, Utah. The bare area left of road is a parking area for a trailhead. This is at maximum zoom in AcmeMapper's current sat imaging dataset--coordinates visible in box bottom right. Unidentified Object In Satellite View2.jpg Another Sat imaging artifact...

Re: What's Out Your Back Door

does any of this threaten your house? or anything else you don't want washed away? There is this downstream of the threatened tree, but not on my property. IMG_7639.JPG The creek is actively excavating the bank at 2,000 cu ft /sec* flows and ultimately could threaten my lot. The adjoining lot will ...

What's Out Your Back Door

Drama out my back door. The winter of 2022/2023 my creek undercut a tree, causing it to fall into the creek last Spring. This winter the highest high water flow, just over 2,000 cubic feet/second, moved the fallen tree downstream, allowing us to see how undercut the next tree is. IMG_7616v2.jpg The ...

Re: Autumn in Yosemite: NoYo YOLO Yoyo

Thanks from me, too, Robin. For me your report was bittersweet, for, you see, I backpacked your route the third week of September, 1969 with two college friends. I have almost no memories of our trip--the hiking part anyhow. So your photos of the route were all new with a twinge of deja vu!! I do re...
