Re: Lookingglass-Bear Lakes; Cached Lake Loop (Wallowas) 7-26-21 – 7-29-21

Thanks for sharing. Your trip sure gave me a hankering to get back there. My wife saw me perusing your photos and allowed her knee might just let her get in one more Wallowa trip. Look familiar? IMG_3056.JPG If you visit again, there is a really nice improved campsite at the north end of Main Eagle ...

Re: Wizard Way (Mt. Hood Meadows) 7-17-21

Great! So the upper "trail" exists. I had no time to explore on Saturday but will be back at some point! To be clear, Mt Hood Meadows didn't build this trail, it is a use trail. I suppose they could claim credit because most users were boot packing skiers climbing to access Super Bowl, the top of M...

Re: Bootleg Fire: Gearhart Mountain Wilderness

July 20, 2021. According to today's Bootleg Fire perimeter map, the entire Gearhart Wilderness has burned. The fire has continued to burn eastward and has entered several of the Chewaucan River's headwater drainages, including Diary Creek, Deer Creek, and Elder Creek. Much of the main stem Chewaucan...

Re: Wizard Way (Mt. Hood Meadows) 7-17-21

From Point 8,000 a use trail follows the moraine above the Mt Hood Meadows Permit area. In years past there has been a big crevasse in the Newton-Clark Glacier--about 9,150' elevation. The glacier has been thinning and thinning so perhaps this feature (the crevasse) will disappear. https://live.stat...

If you climb above the top chair you come to a point or buttress at 8,000 ft:

Re: Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

To me Sugar Pine Ridge is an enigmatic evocative name that promises an unusual experience of the most magnificent of pines, the Sugar Pine. Fire has taken that possibility from us. Unfortunately, Sugar Pine Ridge, a trail not heavily used, and now subject to both the annual deadfall of fire killed t...

Re: Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

Sorry to hear you had a major bush whack. I'm assuming you are referring to Trail 4006 as marked on this map. Trail 4006.jpg A number of trails on the east side of the crest around Jeff seem to have been let go. The trail to Wasco Lake was open and clear August 2020. Anyone do Sugar Pine Ridge recen...

Re: Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

Hi Chip: You are correct, Sullivan calls this hike Canyon Creek Meadows, hike #27 in his "100 Hikes in the Central Oregon Cascades", 1991 edition. For those interested, there were several Cascade (Washington) lilies about to bloom at the very first trail junction you come to at 0.3 miles from Jack L...

Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

July 3rd we day hiked into Three Fingered Jack's East Canyon from the Jack Lake trailhead. With our unusually warm and dry spring, we hoped to hit the flower flush just right. But conditions have remained cool enough at this altitude that the best flowers are yet to come. July 3rd we found that flow...
