Re: Wallowas Super Loop: 8/1/19-8/2/19

Wonderfully informative report and great photos. I might be over there next week and am thinking about doing for the first time the Mt. Howard/East Peak/Aneroid Mtn. route as you describe (with explorations of Sentinel Peak, Dollar Ridge), and so the details you share are most appreciated. I've made...

Thanks for the report. Good to have info on snow levels, as I plan to visit the Eagle Cap in a couple of weeks.

Re: 6/26/19 - Lake Legore, Wallowa Mountains

Jerry - You talking about descending Polaris Pass to the west fork? That huge slope can be scary if it's still got snow on it and I would expect at least a little, if not more. I'm thinking of doing an East Fork - West Fork loop in August. How is that decent from Polaris Pass down to the West Fork ...

Re: Ice Lake and the Matterhorn July 29-31, 2018

Lovely report and wonderful pics! I've viewed Ice Lake from the Matterhorn, which I reached from Sacajawea Peak, but haven't yet taken the trail to the lake itslef and camped there. I'm anxious to do so. There was smoke in the air that somewhat diminished summit views when I was there several years ...

Re: Eagle Cap - Cusick and Sacajawea - 8/2-8/5/18

Great pics! I summited Sacajawea 5 years ago, but via the less intense Thorp Creek route (though plenty intense for this non-climber). I love the Wallowas!

Re: Elkhorn Crest Trail 8/12 - 8/16/18

Thanks for the report and all of the lovely pictures. I'd like backpack this trail one of the years, so the info is much appreciated.

Glad it didn't get too smokey for you. I drove through Baker City on 8/15 and could barely see the Elkhorns through the smoke.

Re: Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge 6-26-18

Nice report! I made a similar visit several years ago, in mid-September (good weather. but brown and no wildflowers, of course). Very interesting and scenic landscape. The mostly cross-country trek up Warner Mtn. was worth the effort. I'd like to go back--in June, most likely, and hike up Degarmo Ca...

Re: Eugene-Area Hikes to Prep for South Sister?

Can anyone recommend good hikes in the Eugene area to prep for summiting South Sister later this summer? In the immediate Eugene area there is Spencer Butte and Mt. Pisgah. The elevation gain is of course nothing compared to S. Sister, but multiple treks up and down should prove beneficial. And the...

Sisters Mirror Lake: Campsites Plentiful?

Does anyone know if Sisters Mirror Lake might accommodate as many as 12 tents?

A friend of mine is leading a group for an overnighter later this month. She asked me, but because my visit there was many years ago, I don't recall the approximate number of established sites.

Thanks!

Anyone have any good bets on when the Hedgehog Cactus might be flowering on Sutton mt this year?

Never quite managed to get there at the right time (yet)!

Thanks.
Not sure about Sutton, but I visited Spring Basin today and found many flowering there.
