Re: Best 2-3 day backpacking route in the Kalmiopsis Wildern
The TKR does go through now with some downed trees and vague tread to deal with. Taggarts bar as an out and back is a nice suggestion. Also consider using the chetco divide trail from Babyfoot. Good camps near chetco lake and cold springs. I recently did the whole loop in 2 days but they were long d...

Kalmiopsis Loop Hike
Last weekend I headed out to the Babyfoot Lake Trailhead down here in Southern Oregon just outside of Cave Junction. The Siskiyou Mountain Club has cleared a Trans-Kalmiopsis Trail connecting Babyfoot Lake and Vulcan Lake on the Western side of the Wilderness. While this corridor is cleared there ar...

Re: 3 questions for the 3 Sisters Wilderness
correct, behind that sign on the user trail leading to the meadow the trail is now full of tree limbs etc to assist in rehab and keep people/wildlife from utilizing. The other trail which drops down to the creek from PCT is still accessible.

Re: bicycles in wilderness
In eastern Oregon plans are underway to designate the Oregon desert trail area as wilderness, with the caveat that cattle grazing there is grandfathered in, as well as a few roads to facilitate that. It will be one of the largest designated wilderness areas in the lower 48 and it wouldn't be possib...

Re: bicycles in wilderness
Thanks for the link. This is an important argument for wilderness users. Mountain bikers make up a great number of users who would support wilderness but who are left out. As the article states, Mtn biking did not exist when the wilderness act was published yet mining and grazing rights were grandfa...

Re: 3 questions for the 3 Sisters Wilderness
Jerry, thanks for the response. I pulled up the USGS on caltopo and it shows the trail but has it dropping shortly after crossing W fork Park towards pole creek. Easy cross country from Camp Lake to meet up with this trail? You are correct about the user trail leading down to glacier creek from the ...

3 questions for the 3 Sisters Wilderness
I just returned from a version of the sisters/broken top loop and I had some questions I was hoping you all may help answer. 1) in descending from Carver lake via W. Fork park creek I came across trail which I assumed was Green Lakes trail as shown on the map. This trail had cairns, faint tread, I-b...

Re: A weekend at Pickett Butte Lookout - June 25-28, 2015
Thanks for the TR. We were thinking of renting this come fall. How was the road up to the lookout? Passenger vehicle accessible? Sounds like there is a lot to see in the nearby area.... Anything accessible from the lookout itself? Thanks!
