Re: Fields Bridge Park -- May 11, 2020

I am grateful to the local governments and citizens who preserved these places, made them into parks with trails, and who maintain websites and maps so I can find them. Thank you, bobcat and everyone else who contributes, for listing a lot of these hikes in the Field Guide here, and also for posting...

Mary S. Young State Park -- May 13, 2020

Another day, another short-and-easy metro walk... I was in the mood for visiting a river. The weather was iffy and it was both midday and midweek. I had to be in the area for other reasons, so it was a good time to check out Mary S. Young State Park, in West Linn. mary s young 5 may 2020.jpg Here ar...

Fields Bridge Park -- May 11, 2020

Fields Bridge Park is a West Linn city park along the Tualatin River. In addition to the usual playground, sports fields, etc., that one often finds in city parks, there is a paved trail along the river and a short loop in the park that commemorates the Willamette Meteorite. There are also places wh...

Re: Common tree/shrub

That makes sense. My initial guess would also have been cottonwood, except that the narrow leaves "fit" willow better. I will have to look at some trailside baby cottonwoods now to check out their skinny little baby leaves as compared to more mature trees, and then compare both to the baby willows.

Re: Canemah Bluff Nature Park -- April 26, 2020

Thank you for checking it out! I did see an online reference to a former lookout from the early years of the 20th century until the early 1960s (destroyed in the 1962 Columbus Day storm), so you are absolutely correct about that. https://oregonlookouts.weebly.com/highland-butte.html That's very inte...

Summerlake Park -- May 6, 2020

Yay, a new-to-me park not far from where the day's chores and errands took me, and thus, another urban-park short-trail trip report to be inflicted on all of you. Summerlake Park is a Tigard city park in the middle of a subdivision. As such, it is surrounded by houses and features the usual city par...

Re: Common tree/shrub

Dunno for sure, but it looks like a willow, and in particular, the Pacific Willow.

Hidden Falls Nature Park -- May 3, 2020

Hidden Falls Nature Park is a new-ish park/trail in Clackamas, OR. I didn't see any reports about it in the field guide or on the forum, so I went to check it out. I only had a short period of time while I was out doing errands and chores, so was in the mood for something short and not too muddy. We...

Re: Canemah Bluff Nature Park -- April 26, 2020

I read all of the information in the field guide and on the forum before I went, to get a sense of what was there. In fact, that's part of why I chose that park for my quick little walk. Thank you for providing the info -- it is very much appreciated! This little park seems like it would be nice dur...
