Re: New 60-mile trail from Corvallis to the coast
I think the maps are not up to date yet, it does go all the way to the coast. But yeah 80-90% is on gravel roads. The permit is really easy to get, you just have to call Starker Forest office. They don't limit them.

Re: Who else got their central cascades permit today?
I got a weekend in August at Pamelia Lake at 7am. I would have rather done a week earlier but it was already sold out when I realized my mistake. I think the amount of permits is too limiting. Olympic NP releases all of theirs at once and still has plenty of availability a couple months after release.

Re: Forest Service Funding for deferred maintenance projects
Yeah thats a good idea! Their proposed quotas are too low. However, I don't think you could make those big enough for all the people that want to go there! I counted over 100 other hikers on a Wednesday July morning !

Forest Service Funding for deferred maintenance projects
What would people like to see with all the funding the Forest Service is getting? https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r6/landmanagement/planning/?cid=fseprd796844 Submit comments on all their projects at the link. I think it would be cool to see some more trail bridges, and maybe backcountry toilets? Wou...

Old Cascades Crest Loop 6/19-6/21 2020
This past weekend I hiked Old Cascades Crest Loop from 3 Pyramids Trailhead. This is a series of trails in the Old Cascades, a set of mountains west of Santiam Pass that are older than the high cascades. The whole loop without side trips is about 28 miles with 8000 feet of elevation gain. Very littl...

Re: Ancient Lake near Quincy, WA 5/18/20
Nice! I went on my first bikepacking trip there. Great spot in October too. I remember riding the trails down to the Columbia and over to the Gorge Amphitheater too. I had never heard of the Gorge before, so it was a funny thing to come across out there!

Hope the trails don't get too overused this year with increased amounts of people outside due to COVID
