Re: Missing hiker believed to be victim of cougar attack

I've seen a cougar once while hiking. I was hiking on the side of a hill and came around a corner and surprised it. By the time I gasped with fright it was gone. I'm 5'6" and I was the only person on the 5 mile loop trail.

Re: Snowshoeing Vista Butte - 12/31/17

Awesome report! Looks like a great snowshoe. Its a bummer about the lack of snow this year. Skyliner parking is right across the highway from Dutchman Flat so you could probably start there (although it might be full too).
I think your Mt. Shasta is actually Mt. Scott on the Crater Lake rim.

Re: Indian Heaven backpacking cut short by wildfire - Sep 2-

Great report, I really need to make it to Indian Heaven, it looks super pretty. Bummer how it turned out, but at least you got some relaxing in and a good story to tell.

Re: Strawberry Eclipse Backpack

Awesome report and pictures. Probably my favorite eclipse report. It was really interesting hearing about the crowds and cool you made it into a full backpacking trip. Best pictures of the strawberries I've seen. I really need to make it over there. I saw the eclipse from Corvallis and most visitors...

No, I didn't know there was a way to get to Billy Jones Lake. I saw it on the map and walked in that direction, but it looked like all cliffs and talus slopes.

Above the Smoke to Echo Lake, Eagle Cap Aug 5-6 2017

I headed to the Wallowas last weekend to get a short backpack in. I camped the night before at Hurricane Creek Campground and then headed up the trail the next morning. Last time I was there was 9 years ago when I was 12, so I was interested to see if I remembered anything. Turns out I didn't recogn...

Beargrass was going very strong at 6000' in north central Idaho last weekend. Funny the varied places it has a good year

Re: Saint Helens Loowit Trail

Your trip report brings me memories from when I hiked the Loowit last year. I think about the same meltoff point too, we just had a couple snow patches left. I think I like the Timberline Trail better, but this one melts off earlier so that is a plus. I remember when we topped Windy Pass late in the...

Awesome! Really cool pictures and narrative. I haven't made it too these wildernesses yet.
