Woman travelling alone through Idaho- bring a gun?

Hello, I am preparing for a three month road trip through Eastern Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. I'm a young adult woman who is conventionally attractive and will be alone with my dog, living out of my truck. I leave Oregon in May so am actively prepping for this ro...

St Helens summit 1/29/15

Took a buddy out for their first Washington mountain. Was a beautiful day to be outside, but the snow conditions were not good. No considerable amount of snow until 6000'. Put crampons on around 6500'. With the warm temps, existing snow became soft and unstable, so we did not waste time on our desce...

Wow, sounds like an awesome trip! If St Helens doesn't work out, you can always walk up lots of other things. South Sister is fun, or you could do one of the Mt Hood hikes and get some decent elevation. Good luck!

Try asking on Cascade Climbers.

You may have more luck closer to the date.

Edit: Have you considered climbing up Mt Adams? Who knows what the weather will be like on Aug 21, but Adams doesn't have the limits that St Helens has.

2 St Helens Permits available for 6/27

Two members of our climbing party have bailed on our 6/27 walk up the snowy hill. Their loss could be your gain! The weather isn't going to be ideal this Friday, but it doesn't look terrible yet: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?textField1=46.19&textField2=-122.20#.U6iPu1VdWSo You can either...

Looks like you had a great time! I'm leading some friends up there next week. How was the parking situation? Was there a good boot track up to the summit?

Re: Howdy! Sly introduction + recent photos from Mt Defiance

Wow! Thank you for all the responses so far, and all the info that Peder posted is very helpful! I think tracking down a used pair of snowshoes will be in the near-future. Probably going to hold off on the skiing until next season so I can budget appropriately for passes and gas. Navigation is reall...
