Re: Great PNW Multi-day Backpacking Loops
In my humble opinion, anybody who does this loop and doesn't find the time for the spur to Image Lake and the Miners Ridge lookout is certifiably insane, assuming they have any idea of what they are missing, of course. Totally agree. On a different trip (Suiattle River to PCT and then southbound) I...

Re: Great PNW Multi-day Backpacking Loops
Nice collection of loops. Some other good options in Washington. Hannegan Pass/Copper Ridge loop in North Cascades NP is exceptional. Out and back to Whatcom Pass in the middle is a must do. Spider Gap/Buck Creek Pass is outstanding. Many other possibilities in Glacier Peak Wilderness area of varyin...

Re: Blacklock Point from Floras Lake 1-24-19
I really like that area. Hiked it once from the airport and another time from the lake. Somehow I missed the arch though. When I hiked from Floras it was windy as hell and the lake was swarming w/ windsurfers and kite boarders. Come to think of it, it was also very windy at the Point the other time ...

Re: Tuck and Robin Lakes Backpacking | Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA
Very few people and no goats. A few years later when I went to the Enchantments, there were no goats. Where did they come from? Spontaneous generation? It's purely anecdotal, but it seems to me like there are more goats throughout the Washington Cascades than there used to be. Like compared to 15 o...

Re: Tuck and Robin Lakes Backpacking | Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA
goat photo bombed you :) I've heard about that area. Was it too crowded? Alternate to the Enchantments maybe I've day hiked up there several times. I haven't tried backpacking there on a weekend. From what I hear it's frequently overrun and it wouldn't be surprising if this eventually goes the way ...

Re: Permits coming to the Gorge? Mt Hood?
But there is currently no quota or additional fee beyond parking for day use of the Enchantments. Fees/quotas only apply to overnight users. That is a large distinction.

Beautiful pictures RobinB. I haven't been up there for a couple years, but I've visited many times. It never gets old!

Re: Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30
You have to take some of the text in the Manning/Spring guides with a humongous grain of salt. Prone to quite a bit of hyperbole. Spring took the pictures, Manning wrote the trail descriptions. I think Harvey was a bit of a grouch. Liked to get on his soap box from time to time as well. And yet, I s...

Re: Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30
I can't recall of ever hearing about an incident with a goat injuring a hiker in the Enchantments.
