The gate at the Sandy River Bridge is closed and locked, so if you want to hike the Ramona Falls trail or access the Timberline Trail or PCT from there, be prepared to hike an extra two miles in along the road to get to the trailhead. Mt. Hood Chapter maintains the PCT and feeder trails from Olallie Lake area to north of Mt. Adams. Mid Oregon Chapter maintains Mt. Jefferson south.

I picked up two ticks last April near Bald Mountain, so yes, this is their season on the west side of Mt. Hood.

Backpacking loop next weekend

Looking for a ~25-mile loop not too far from Portland (gorge would be great). Want to get as high as possible without getting into much snow. No snowshoes, just boots. Suggestions?

Eagle Creek Bridge out just past Punchbowl

The Eage Creek Trail has a badly damaged bridge just upstream from Punchbowl Falls. A tree fell on one end of the bridge, twisting and breaking the bridge and its supports. It is NOT safe to attempt a crossing.
