Re: Eagle Cap: Cached at Cached Lake
Little more on the Pop Lake Trail from Cached Lake. In 1960-64 I was on the trail crew that covered that area. One of our 10 day hitches was Main Eagle, Trail Creek, Echo/Traverse down to West Eagle Meadows. We covered the Bench Canyon and three lakes on the eastside of Main Eagle. Our favorite camp...

Re: Maxwell Butte Steeplechase
The trail has been logged out by the HIGH CASCADES FOREST VOLUNTEERS Salamander Crew. Took days but this crew along with its sister crew the Scorpions are tough folks. Hopefully won't be quite as many next year and we'll be able to hit it sooner.

Re: Eagle Cap Wilderness Backpack 2017
A bit early for this roundtrip around Cache Lake over the Bench Canyon Trail and down through Heart/Arrow back to Main Eagle. Usually try and not go up there until after 8-1. If you continue up the faint trail into Copper Creek Basin you're in for a real treat. Huge bowl with a waterfall at the head...

Re: Tidbits Mountain 6/19/16
This is a great hike and well worth doing. Noticed in one of your pic's that there were lots of trees down, on the trail? I belong to a volunteer trail crew and we'll be working that trail before long logging it out. We plan on coming in from the Blue River side (126) but will probably have enough f...

Re: First time Eagle Cap Loop 9/11-13/15 Beauty & Disappoint
There's so many hidden gems in the Wallowa's that rarely see humans. You don't have to look far to find them just keep away from the Lakes Basin Area and on the North side from Hurricane drainage east. One positive thing about the condition of the trails is you are truly in the wilderness with none ...

Re: Crater Lake: Wallowas edition 5/4/15
Original trail was 3 miles before it was resurveyed and turned in to a 7 mile trip. Locals are still upset about that dang long trail into Crater Lake.

Re: Hiking with llamas to Cached Lake - Aug. 18-20, 2013
You were headed in the right direction to Pop Lake. That light trail you saw out of Cache Lake heading North goes over the top and down into Big Pop Lake as indicated on the map. That has never been a maintained trail but was used by camp tenders back in the days when sheep were run in the Wallowa's...
